Description
** Right now we are really looking for someone that can come immediately now in March and/or April. There will be outside garden work and helping out with children, see more details below :) **
Note: We are new to workaway but have used WWOOF both as hosts and volunteers for many years and have had many great experiences both ways.
Overview
We are a young family living in a wonderful little village with a lot of other very friendly people. We have a garden where we grow some different vegetables (varies per year), fruit trees and berry bushes for making juices and jams, we also pick wild berries in the forest and chop wood. There is also firewood to make, and construction projects sometimes. We try to make the work very varied so that you will try out many different things. We like baking sourdough bread, and have a Swedish flatbread oven. There are several small towns close by to visit in your free time and many fun things to do such as sauna, swimming, and trekking, close by town Nora is a popular spot with old wooden houses, beautiful church and many cultural activities, cafes and the famous Nora icecream.
Our Family
We are a young family with 5 children (1, 3, 7, 8 & 10) which love to play, our eldest boy has Downs Syndrome and is super friendly and loves dancing and music. When the weather is nice we like to go on family outings all year round. Right now we are really looking for wwoofers who like to spend time taking care of the kids so it's good if you enjoy and are experienced with small children. The 3 oldest kids go to school during the days, and we work and study from home, so we are here most of the time, but sometimes need to go to the university etc and that's especially when we need help with the kids :)
Community
There is also a very friendly community of people living in our village and the villages around here that we do various activities with. There is a very nice book thrift shop that also has small concerts that we like to go to in the summer.
Activities
Lake to swim or paddle in with a firewood sauna, hot tub, mountains & forests for hiking, nature reserves to explore, mountainbike trails, boardgame evenings, movie nights, BBQ, outdoor activities, beach trips, etc.
If you come when it's a good winter (like at the time or writing) there is also great ice skating ice, cross country skiing, some downhill skiing and snowmobile riding.. and of course building snowmen and snow caves to join! :)
Applications & Projects
Right now we are mainly looking to have only one wwoofer at a time and that wants to stay for at least a couple of weeks, preferably more. and that likes to play actively with little children and help us out at home. There will also of course be tasks outside in the garden or various tasks, and the balance can be depending on what you are interested in. We also need someone that is very self disciplined and can help by themselves some of the time.
Mainly there will be helping out with kids and in the home with cleaning and food, as well as doing various outside projects in the garden, depending on the season, like picking berries, making jams/juice, preparing/clearing areas up in the garden, and also could be small building/fixing projects.
Since it can be tough on kids to have many wwoofers come and go, we don't want too many wwoofers and usually prioritise longer term applications.
Organic methods: We do not use any pesticides or growth enhancers. We want to grow everything in the most natural way possible so that we can eat healthy and take care of our earth.
Meals
We cook mainly fully vegan food in our home, but there may also be some animal products sometimes like cheese and butter if you want it.
Certifications: Family home and garden so no certification :)
Note: We are not a commercial company, all the produce we grow is for our own family and friends :)

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Living in a rural community in Sweden, traditional sauna, hiking, cooking, planting, gardening, picking berries, playing with kids, traditional wood fire sauna experience.
We take in volonteers as a part of the family. Doing tasks and spending time together most of the time. You are free to be by yourself if you prefer in your free time of course but otherwise you are welcome to be with us most of the time. We will sometimes go on small trips or daytrips, like hikes or go to beaches, and then you are welcome to join of course.
We are a mixture of traditional Swedish family with a mix of german and english speaking children, so it should work well with many volonteers.
