Teacher Wanted for a semester or more (Aug-Dec or Jan-May):
Please don't expect immediate response as we check this account every few days.

We are a small alternative international school in the beautiful paradise of Santa Catalina and we are currently looking for a teacher/homeschool facilitator for a group of neighborhood children in a magical jungle/beach atmosphere. We are also new to Workaway, which is why we have no feedback yet!

Our mission in the school is to offer a balanced and inspiring educational space that combines academic rigor and creativity alongside a deep connection to ourselves, others, and to the natural world to grow dynamic learners who will thrive in any environment.

We offer a balanced education that feels like freedom. No labels, no one size fits all, working as does the intelligence of nature to adapt and evolve to meet the needs of our students, our school community, and the natural environment in which we find ourselves. This education is offered in the context of preK-6 primary education, extracurricular activities, language classes, summer camps, and community events.

Currently there are about 17 students in the school, grades k-6, from all over the world who speak English and in addition several speak Spanish, Italian, French, German, or Russian.

The volunteer will be able to relate to and learn from the children, parents, and other helpers in our small study group. Within our school community, we have origins in over 10 different countries, so there is ample opportunity to exchange with diverse and interesting individuals from all over the world. You will find yourself instantly connected to our school family in one way or another.

As we are located in rural Panama, there are perfect opportunities for cultural exchange within our local community. You will be able to to appreciate the relaxation that comes with the slower pace of life here and how that pace often comes with deeper connections to yourself, others, and nature. The nature that surrounds us is truly magical. You will have many special encounters with the nature around you here, at the beaches, or on the islands. You will eat the delights of the tropics, fresh fruit growing on trees and fresh caught fish. You will have ample opportunity to practice Spanish with locals in local shops, at the beach, in local restaurants, on the street, and maybe even on a boat ride to a beautiful island. We can even arrange language classes for you should you decide you want to improve. In addition

We are looking for a native, or very near native, English speaker, preferably with university completion, who is comfortable with task managing a digital academic curriculum for a group of 3-5 students.

The curriculum is fairly simple and you can be trained on it within a couple of days. It includes primary level math, science, social studies, and language. In addition, no lesson plans or grading must be done as it is all included in the curriculum. However it is of utmost importance that your English be almost impeccably fluent in reading, writing and speaking. There are many other opportunities that await you here such as group gardening, art projects, eco projects, language classes, and community events, should you be a fit! This environment greatly favors the creative, the kind, and the innovative. Let's see what we can co-create together!

We need volunteers that can help from 8:45 am-2pm Monday through Friday. This schedule would not vary, although we would give you some vacation time throughout your stay here.

    What else ...

Within our school community, we are all very friendly, polite, open, light-hearted and respectful people. We expect the same of the kids and from our volunteers. We also expect a diligent work effort with periodic moments to laugh, rest , or make a coffee when needed! Santa Catalina is very accessible by bus, and you can arrive to the capital of Panama, Panama in around 6 hours by bus or 5 by car.

And the local activities are absolutely top notch- surfing, diving, snorkeling, horseback, fishing, kayaking, hanging out at the local markets, cafes, ice cream shop, short trail runs, island trips, going out to top restaurants, and a low key nightlife scene. It's actually whale season right now, so if you're lucky you may be able to see one of those majestic beauties!
