    Description

    Hi,

We are a mixed group of 18 people living in a large square farm dating from 1677 in the south of the rolling Haspengouw hills. Surrounded by fields en fruit orchards, a residential community is growing on the farm. At the moment 18 of us are living in eight housing units and we are in the process of constructing 4 more units. Besides living, we set up an association to develop a variety of activities; a large organic vegetable garden, a traditional bread/pizza oven, a harvest festival, a wood and handcraft workshop,...

We are a variety of people and families aged between 0 and 72 years old. We engage ourselves to work for the association during our free time and besides that we work or study elsewhere. We like to eat and live in a healthy way and we we inspire each other to live in a more ecological way. Furthermore, 1 dog, 3 cats and 10 or so chickens live in the yard. Besides the residents, a lot of other people visit us: neighbors or volunteers who help out, friends or family, cyclists who sometimes stay overnight via Welcome to my Garden,... We like to open our doors and be an inspiring meeting place.

The farm includes 1.4 ha of agricultural land, on which we grow vegetables and small fruit, making us self-sufficient almost all year round. In the summer period, we sell our vegetables to the local residents. Furthermore, there is an orchard, a greenhouse, a forest under construction, a large permaculture vegetable garden, compost that we make ourselves, flowers, a wood workshop, a sewing/handcraft workshop, a caravan and even a swimming pond.

  • Help

    Help

For the association, we need help with the following tasks (depending on your interest):
    - help in the permaculture garden (sowing, planting, harvesting, pruning,...)
    - cooking (every wednesday we all eat together)
    - Preserving food (jam, pickling vegetables, syrup, pasata,...)
    - occasionally taking care of the children while the parents work for the community (between 0-5 years old)
    - we are planning to organize more activities to welcome our neighbors and could use some help: creative workshops,
cultural events, pizza-night in the traditional bread oven,...

If you have some special skills or talents you would like to share (yoga, crafts, dancing, music,...), let us know. We are happy to see how they can contribute to our project.

    Accommodation

We have one guestroom with a private bathroom for visitors. As a workawayer you can sleep in this room when there are no other visitors. Otherwise we have 2 other rooms with a bed/mattress in the part of the farm that still needs to be renovated. And during summer there is always the option to camp in the garden.
We have sheets, blankets and pillows.

We have a well equipped kitchen in the common area you can use and an outdoor kitchen.

We provide basic food (oats, rice, milk, pasta, bread, lentels, beans, fruit,...) and vegetables from the garden. Extra's like meat, cheese, chocolate,.. you can buy or bring yourself.

As a workawayer you can cook yourself in the common kitchen together with other workawayers or guests. On wednesday evenening we share a meal all together. And some days we will invite you to share a meal with one of the people/families living at the farm.

We are located in the centre of Borlo, a small town with a bus stop in front of our doors, every 30 minutes a bus comes by to take you to Landen or Sint Truiden (20 minutes ride). The surrounding area is famous for its walking and cycle trails between the fruit orchards. Really beautiful!
