Description
We have volunteered and travelled all over the world and we loved every second of it. All of the rich experiences it brought us are our favourite memories.
We now live on a beautiful island in Tonga and we would love to have travellers come stay, and experience the culture here. We loved our workaway exchanges and want to give back where we can.
Our project is simple: Help us out for a few hours a week, and you can stay here in our home. Help can look however you like. Maybe you’re great in the garden, great at cleaning, a good artist who wants to contribute to our decor, maybe you’re a whizz in the kitchen and want to whip up dinners. We are both learning instruments, maybe you can give us lessons? We have a fence that could use improving, and our kitchen could use some DIY improvements. These are just some ideas- We are open to how you contribute.
We have a raised garden, a tropical yard, and a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee machine. We have a private room and bathroom for travellers. We aren’t an organisation, just a couple of travellers like you. At the moment, we would prefer a shorter stay rather than months at a time. But we are pretty flexible, especially if the nature of your contribution requires time.
It’s just my Partner and our little kitten, baked bean. I’m a teacher, and he is an engineer. We both love travel, food, gardening, the outdoors, hiking, and finding the fun in life.
Tonga is a beautiful place to sink your teeth into. We really just want to pay it forward and help share some of the travel experiences we had ourselves.
We live in Nuku’alofa. Near beautiful coral walls, local villages, tropical food forests, and so much beauty. If you love snorkelling, cycling, the beach, or experiencing different cultures, you’ll love Tonga.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We live amongst local Tongans and in the centre of the island. Near our house is the ocean, waterfront, fishing, snorkelling, and plenty of natural beauty. Perhaps you can learn some Tongan and make friends with the locals. It's definitely worth attending church here, even if you are not religious. Just to take in the signing and the familial focus- it's a MASSIVE part of the culture here.
We hope that we can learn from you and enjoy your company. We hope that you can learn from us and enjoy ours. All we ask is for consideration and respect. For us, the house, and the community we live in.
Help
Gardening, cleaning, animal care, music lessons (guitar, ukulele or harmonica), house sitting, cooking, fence repair, etc.

We would love to learn more Spanish, or get better at Te Reo Māori. We are trying to learn Tongan too!
Accommodation
We have a spare room with a queen bed. It has its own bathroom and shower. It’s at a separate end of the house from our own bedroom/ bathroom.
We have a large 3-bedroom house and garden. We cannot provide a car for you, but you could find a bike! Or you can rent a vehicle quite cheaply (40-60 TOP per day).
We hope that you might join us for dinners or meals out at times, but are happy to cook separately too. We don’t have dietaries, but are happy to accommodate them. We provide accommodation, wifi, and water. We’d expect you to cover your food costs or chip in for them.
It's worth noting that the cost of things here is higher than you might expect. So do your research and ensure you come prepared :)
What else ...
There aren’t buses or trains here so your best to get around by foot or bike if close by.
Theres a problem with dogs in the streets and they can be aggressive so we really recommend a car. It would also allow you to explore outer areas of the island which are the prettiest parts of Tonga!
