    Description

*** Due to some restructuring I have focused everything on the renovation of the house. Currently, I don't have animals anymore, so the farm work is not the priority. Of course, I still want to realise self-sufficiency in the future, but step by step :) ***

The farm is an about three hundred year old brickworks with about twelve hectares pasture and forest around it.
At the moment I am reconstructing the main house and the other buildings by using sustainable and natural building material, for example loam or antique oak beams. I want to preserve the old building fabric, because of that we are not able to live there yet.

In addition I want to realise self-sufficiency in the future, as much as possible. Therefore I have a large greenhouse and of course, I want to have animals (sheep, pigs, chicken) again.

In general we want to do as much as possible by ourselves. So you see, it is not a commercial business.

It would be great to find someone here who understands the goals I have and who is enthusiastic about helping me to achieve them!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You can learn something about reconstruction of historical buildings, sustainability, gardening/farming and general working outdoors. We can also exchange our language and/or cooking skills and whatever we think we could learn from each other ;)

We live in the beautiful "Soonwald" (large wooded area) with many interesting trails and places in the nature. In contrast the cities Mainz, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt are nearby so that you are able to experience the atmosphere of a typical German city.

    Help

Primarily, I need help with the reconstruction of the historical building. This means preparing walls and ceilings by using materials like loam, wood and quarry stones. You shouldn't be afraid of making yourself dirty ;) Of course it would be perfect, if you have some knowledge in reconstruction.

Besides that you can help me planning and realizing a self-sufficient life which means for example gardening and farming (when we have animals again).
There is also the possibility to help in a wineyard if you are interested.

In general you should be reliable, innovative, open-minded and enthusiastic about anti-mainstream projects. You should like working outdoors and using practical tools and construction materials.
I only search for long-term helpers.

    Accommodation

You will have a free stay in the "woodlodge" and the shepherd´s wagon with a nice view over the great pasture. Currently, there is no electricity, but with candles, a wood stove and a little mobile solar system you can feel quite comfortable. It's possible to get a fixed photovoltaic system to have electric light and heating. In summer you have the possibility to sleep in a hammock within the forest. There is no running water at the woodlodge, but you can use a camping shower and carry the water from the main house a few metres away. In a seperate woodlodge there is a dry toilet and space to have a shower.

You can prepare your own meals in the woodlodge with a gas stove. Indeed we are interested in sharing our recipes so it is also possible to cook together sometimes. Moreover we have a nice barbecue.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You can enjoy the beautiful nature, visit the UNESCO-world heritage "middle rhine valley", travel to the steepest vineyard in europe or go to the theatres and shopping centers of Mainz and Wiesbaden. There is also a nice lake nearby our farm. Public transport is available in the next village, but you will be quite more flexible if you come by car or (motor)bike.
