My name is Mary Ann and I am from the United States. I have lived in Chile for the last 19 years in this beautiful area of Puerto Bertrand at the start of the Rio Baker. I have my house which I built recently, as well as a cabin that I rent and a guest room in a separate building which you will stay in. The town is very small (only 40 people) so it is very tranquil and very isolated within the local forest, situated on the shores of the turquoise Lago Bertrand with excellent views of snow-capped mountains.
I have 8 cats and 3 dogs and so you will probably walk them and hang out with them, so people with allergies and who don’t like animals will have a hard time. Saying that I also have a lot of great things here including an outside bbq fire pit, a huge walking trail that starts from my house, and since it’s a small town I can introduce you to everyone that lives here.

Help around the house
This is a very peaceful part of the world so you can spend a lot of time away from civilization and chill out taking walks through the forest next to my house. I have a lot of knowledge about the local area and can teach you whatever you would like to learn about including types of trees, bushes, mushrooms, info on rivers and mountains etc.
I have several projects that I need help with including gardening, maintenance of the property, painting, chopping wood, improving the walking trail or adding to the number of art installations I have here. You need to be independent here because a lot of the work will be self directed and done alone as I have a lot of other things I need to do during the day. If you think of something to improve the area or house you should just do it!
The work will be light hearted and afterwards we can celebrate your projects with some beer and great conversation. Smoking and herb friendly environment.
Private cabin with a fire and a private bathroom. In the main house I have everything we will need for cooking; spices, cookware etc.
We only have two very small stores in town so if you need fruits, vegetables, or anything in particular, please do it before coming here because the chances are very high that you won't find it.
Volunteers can easily hitch or take buses to Parque Patagonia, Cochrane, Tortel, Rio Tranquilo to explore the area. Easy access (3 hours) to and from Chile Chico.
People that would best suit this workaway are people that are comfortable with the isolation of a small town and who are independent to help me with the various things I have. I am very excited to meet you and can’t wait to hear your stories!
