Description
Hello lovely people! My name is Lara im half spanish half Irish, and I have a 3 bedroom apartment in Castellon which i have just about finished renovating with my partner Smail, who is French :)
I have been traveling around Asia for the last few years and im WEEEELLLL accustomed to doing my fare share of workaways, backpacking etc, and so is my partner.I had an amazing experience doing workaway in the past and want to take part as a host this time. We are both super chill, open minded , adventurous and fun.
We welcome couples , friends or solo travellers ;) we dont mind pets once they are well trained and you clean up after them ,and you would have your own room , and privacy. Our home is 5 min away from the city centre, we could lend you a bike and the beach is about a 25 min cycle away.
My family also have a summer home in benicassim so I’m sure we could arrange to stay there a night or visit etc!
We are not looking to make you do long, 15-18 hours a week is plenty, just enough in exchange for your stay! This isn’t about exploitation.

I am half irish half spanish, so I am able to truely give you a local experience. castellon is a small town in the province of Valencia, you will get the opportunity to mix with the locals and get a true feel of the spanish culture without the huge tourist traps.
This is an opportunity to unwind, and be able to live the spanish lifestyle, beers for a euro, fresh local food, menu of the day ( typical lunch menu served in every spanish restaurant , normally 3 course meal with wine ) for under 10 euro.
the only thing we ask is to be respectful and thats about it! animals welcome,smoking welcome, old , young, etc!
Help
We are currently converting a truck into a tiny home on wheels and basically need help with a million things haha !
Things we need, could be one or the other ! Just let us know what you would be good at! It's parked on our land and we need to get the space ready for the summer.
- organisation ! We need help to clean out our shed , to prep our land for traveling :)
- lots of little tasks in the van
- help us organise our little hut on the land.
- maybe some gardening
As you can see basically anything hahah, it’s about the right attitude and for us to feel comfortable with you since we live here and it’s important that there’s a good vibe :)
As i have mentioned before, I have done workaways in Malasia, Japan, Indonesia and so on. I expect around 18 hours a week of help. WE ARE FLEXIBLE ! If you prefer l6 hours à day 3 days à week , or instead 3 hours a day for 5 weeks , or 2 full days cleaning , 5 off ? I don’t mind, once the job gets done.THATS IT! Im flexible. I want you to be happy, i want you to be comfortable and for this to be an experience to get to know new people. You can choose when you prefer to work, are you a morning person? prefer to work after siesta? prefer evening times and have the day to yourself. We can accomodate

You would be staying in our home. It’s a three bedroom apartment , . you would get your own room! and you would share the bathroom with us and the comunal spaces. We have been doing work away for a while and the reason we ask for only 15 hours in comparison to other places is A, this isn't about free labour it's an exchange and B, we prefer not to include food. Some people have dietary requirements others have strong values in what they eat , others eat at 6pm , we eat at 9pm , you might not like the food I prepare etc, and it becomes more of a chore for us to feed people 3 times a day, and it's better to not have work away haha .We work full time , so we don't always have the time. That doesn't mean that when we are at home and I've just cooked a lasagne, that I'm not going to offer or eat all together. We just don't want it to be expected. Think of it as roommates, sometimes you eat together, sometimes you share, sometimes you eat at different times etc. of course help yourself to the spices , condiments , etc that's here , we just don't want the responsibility of feeding you haha.
What else ...
You are free to do as you wish. castellon has great markets,restaurants and bars and great beaches, if you are coming during the summer season, Benicassim is famous for its international music festivals where people come from all over the world to see its 15 min by car away. During high season there are loads of clubs and night life available in Benicassim but during low season, its more quiet, but you can go to Castellon instead.
Valencia is only 45 minutes away and you can get a train there, as well as barcelona, which is around 3 hours away by bus. you can get it directly from here. you can either fly to Valencia Airport, and we can organize a way to get you to benicassim, or you can fly to the new airport ( Castellon airport) which is only 20 minutes from the house. Both are with Rynair so the tickets are cheap as chips!

Working on the van was kinda fun, I think I learned a lot about DIY and traveling with a van here. The environnement is very good because Lara and Smail were very cool, taking time to explain me what I'd have to do or beiing chill if I did a few mistakes !
