    Description

Hello, my name is Mario. I am working on a team consisting of me and two of my friends Petra and Inggrid. We are a small group who care about our town's educational system and social life. Simply put, you can say that we want change for the better in our community. It is a very quiet town, good place for relaxing. I live with my sister and my mother at home; my home also serves as a private school for teaching English and primary school lessons.

For my school, we desperately need fluent English speakers to help our kids reach their full potential. In exchange for helping me for a few hours, my friends and I will do our best to take you to see interesting and "non touristy" spots around my place. We are close to many white sand beaches with coral reefs, jungle with many waterfalls, caves, beautiful lagoons, and rivers. and when you go there, you'll enjoy all the spots by yourself with no other people. just you and nature.

We all work on a team that is related to teach English. We will take you also to some other islands near to our place like muna island to see the beautiful lagoon, if you wish, you can snorkel and swimming with turtle in the lagoon because fish actually live in the this crystal clear water, you can also swimming in the stingless jellyfish lake and visiting the cave with the stone age painting. Siompu island is the best place to spend the day, swimming in the crystal clear and coral reefs, canoeing, and seeing the sunset. there'll be no other people in this place if we visit. our place also is near to wakatobi islands. You can google it, one of the best spots for diving and snorkeling. It has 750 kinds of coral from 850 kinds in the world.

I want to explain about the volunteer's activities here. So people normally stay for one week or even more. They help the students by giving them English lesson for 2 or 3 hours a day. In their spare time they will visit some non-touristic spots here like the beach, jungle, etc and we will guide them for free. They also learn about the language " Bahasa Indonesia" from us and the students.

In some special events we will invite them to join some local activity so they can learn more about the culture of Bau-bau and Buton ethnic, for example attending the wedding party or traditional ceremony and event. We want to show them that the traditional ceremony is very unique here.

One of the other reasons that makes our places good for them to learn bahasa indonesia and the culture is because the place is very quiet, not a crowded place, not so much trafic and the people are very kind.

Me, my friend, our family and students would really like to welcome all the guest. We want to share experience and learning also from them, their culture and language.

We are looking for people who are fluent in English that can help our shy students open their mouths to speak English! We generally ask for a few hours of help a day, making some conversations with our students. We teach different levels of students ranging from elementary to senior high school to adult students trying to improve their English. We have a good relation with schools around area. When they teach in the classes, we will help them for making some translations

We have started extracurricular programs in some schools that begin after formal lessons finish. There, we try our best to make the students open up! If you have any good ideas on how to teach English in a fun and creative way, please let us know. We can use more advice from our guests to make our students more fluent and confident in speaking English.

For now, we have 27 students devide by 6 classes ranging from elementary to senior high school. We would like to have some more students and we think maybe you can help us for that because we think in here students will be more interested to learn English from foreigners.

For the operational needs like books, monthly internet connection, etc students will pay IDR 150.000 per month.

Thus, guests also may want stay in a home-stay near in our place. You will get your own room with private bathroom and free wifi.

Well, it's better if we give you further information about how to get to our town, Bau-bau. If you go by plane from Jakarta, Surabaya or Denpasar (Bali), the flight will always make one stop in Makassar (South Sulawesi) or Kendari (South east sulawesi) When you arrive in Bau-bau, We will pick you up from the airport.

The other way to come to Bau-bau is by boat. There're some boat from Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali. But just like the flight, it will transit in Makassar before continuing to Bau-bau. It's a PELNI ship (national company) cheaper than the flight but it will take time (around 14 hours from Makassar) we will pick you up also from the harbor when you arrive.

If you need more information, ask me via email. We want all of our guests to feel comfortable and enjoy their experience with us.
