    Description

Blair and Dawn live in a community at the north end of Galiano Island with access to beautiful beaches and trails. Our property is part of Therah which includes 30 forested residential sites and 100 acres of common land, part of which are large community gardens. We are involved in gardening and forest management at Therah. We have another property at the south end of Galiano that we help develop and maintain. This property is also near beautiful beaches and has the bonus of being in proximity to our small town amenities. Currently this property has two goats; we hope for chickens soon. We work together with our helpers and like to spend time in conversation over meals and board games. We take our helpers with us when we go somewhere interesting. We previously have years of experience as Wwoof hosts.

We enjoy sharing time together in conversation over meals, games and at interesting local events. We live in a remote area where we have learned to adapt to not having amenities close by. In the kitchen, this means creative meals, garden foods, and preserving. For heat we use a wood stove and we prepare our own firewood. However, we do have electricity (in spite of regular power outages) and internet. All the building on the property has been done by ourselves. We currently are building a shed and doing finishing touches on the cabin.

    Help

Help with gardening, forest clearing (to fire smart the property) and helping with some building projects. Sharing cooking and dishwashing is appreciated. We ask for 4 hours of help each day with 2 days off per week. We always work together so our help have clear direction and the chance to chat while working.

Depending on the time of year, we have a very small cabin, trailers or tent. All are clean with fresh bedding. As for meals, at breakfast we have a variety of cereals with nuts, seeds and fruit. At lunch, we make our own sandwiches. At supper, I prepare hot meals. Help on alternate days with dishes is appreciated. If you have a special meal from your country, let me know sho I can buy the ingredients. Please bring any specialty items you like: coffee or snacks.

We will pick you up at Sturdies Bay on Galiano Island when you tell us which ferry you plan to arrive on. It is nice if you could confirm that you are actually on that ferry and whether it has left on time or is delayed. This helps us time pick up as we are 35 minutes away from the ferry. As mentioned earlier, there are many trails and beaches, local events and small shops at the south end of the island. We also can lend a bicycle.
