    Description

I am an adventurer looking for help after the 22nd of May.

I love traveling, meeting new people and exploring different cultures. There is a lot of world to see and so much to learn, I hope to aid you in your journey with this exchange.

Some of the things I most enjoy that are close to my heart are my spirituality, music, dancing (especially Bluegrass, Cajun and Zydeco), cooking, dining, good wines, reading, gardening, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing and just about anything to do with the outdoors. I have a passionate love of nature and have a deep connection with it.

As a guest in this world, I am inquisitive and want to know about the local culture, history, language, religion and see what the local people do, go places that they like and eat foods that they enjoy. The exploration and discovery is what makes traveling fun for me.

This part of Western North Carolina is rich in history. This was the heart of the Cherokee
Settlements prior to "the Trail of Tears". There are petroglyphs, and sacred sites rich with Cherokee ledgends and verbal, as well as written stories. My home is located within easy access to the reservation of the Eastern Band of Cherokee.

This area is also has a spectacularly diverse bio system. Due to the abrupt change in altitude, rich meadows, streams and forest. We have a very active research center, botanical gardens and nature center worth exploring.

There is also the history and culture of the pioneers who settled the Appalachian Mountains. There is a distinct influence today from those hearty and determined men and women. We have the food, music, dance and so many other areas of that early life available to explore. The Foxfire Museum in North Georgia is a short drive down the mountain. The Foxfire program is celebrating over fifty years of research, books and building of a traditional mountaineer community. It is well worth a visit.

I have many books in my library on the area which I am happy to share as well as a vast knowledge.
As a workaway host, my desire is for my guests to have the most enjoyable experience possible. I am knowledgeable about the area I live in and will freely share that information. I will be more than happy to help you explore your specific interests, from art, music, cuisine, history, shopping, to ziplines. I enjoy having guests and also respect their privacy. I look forward to each new visitor!

This renovated barn offers you a private bedroom, bath, living room, laundry room and deck overlooking a native plant garden and the rock face of Scaly Mountain. A small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven and coffee pot offer you the flexibility of dining at home or at one of the many incredible restaurants in the area. I have been in the restaurant and catering business most of my life and will be happy to help you explore local cuisine at home or dining out. The living room is charming with a table set for two in front of a gas fireplace-heater or you can dine by candlelight on the open terrace. We are free from mosquitoes at this altitude so enjoying the private deck is a pleasure. No air conditioning is necessary (although it is available) because of of cool summer temperatures, however there are ceiling fans in all rooms to keep the fresh mountain air moving. Watch the sunrise with coffee in the morning and stargaze in the evening.

No smoking and no pets please.

This is an amazingly diverse area culturally, historically and biologically. I am knowledgeable and can make the experience unique. With an altitude above 4,000 feet, the days are pleasant for biking, canoeing, kayaking, boating, river rafting, zip line, summer and snow tubing, horseback riding, fishing and just relaxing on the deck with a good book. The spring is full of wildflowers, this is a perfect artist retreat, romantic get away or suite for the outdoor enthusiast. It is only up to you to choose to enjoy. Thank you for taking time to explore!
