    Description

Hello, my name is Rina Diaz and I live in Uruguay in the Sierra de Las Animas area, Maldonado department.
My house is at the southern end of the sierra 150 meters high, surrounded by indigenous forest and 6 km from the beach.
The local road begins at km 90 of Ruta Interbalnearia, which means that we are at that distance from the capital of the country, Montevideo. There are 2 cities 10 km away and a village. The collective transport is quite good.

I live in a 22-hectare field that is the southern slope of a hill adjacent to the highest in the country.
The house is made of natural materials, almost all taken from the same place and was built mostly by my children and friends.
I am part of a local tourism cooperative, which is dedicated to hiking in the mountains.

I am in contact with the university of the region through students.

For those interested in knowing the native vegetation and native animals and for those who love bird watching, this is a privileged place.
For those interested in green building, we always have maintenance and repair activities and from time to time we have new projects. The next is to finish a Uruguayan sauna.

I have a small garden and native fruit trees of little age.
Anyone interested in practicing the Spanish language is welcome. I have lived in Sweden for fifteen years and I have been in the situation of having to learn another language, so they have my sympathy.
I learned to know Latin America in Sweden, by being in contact with people from many countries, and I hope to continue knowing the world at home, through my visitors.

We are 10 km from two cities of 10,000 inhabitants, Pan de Azucar and Piriápolis. This last resort and port, famous for having been founded by an alchemist with the surname Piria, from where its name originates.
We are less than 10 km from very beautiful beaches and where there is a lot of artistic and musical activity. You can participate in the Carnival activities and also in the candombe activities throughout the year. Various groups in the area are dedicated to showing visitors the cultural and historical heritage of the place from colonial times to the present day.
The area itself is geologically very interesting and there are also archaeological remains of cultures that date back at least 13,000 years.

The house is made of mud, stone and straw, it is a rustic construction. The heating is with firewood. The water is from a spring and it reaches us by gravity, that is to say, difference in level of the ground. The energy is from a solar panel and we do not have a refrigerator. The diet is generally lacto-ovo.vegetarian. Many times we are without electricity if there are many cloudy days.

The visitor has their own bedroom during their stay. We do not have conventional sanitation but we use a dry toilet. There is no hot water through the pipe, the water for the bath is heated on the wood stove.
