    Description

    Hey :)
We have a last minute availability from now until May 10th ish. :)
Thanks for checking out my profile.
If you are looking for more of a peaceful retreat type of stay where you will be immersed in the beauty of nature, this might be the place for you :)

I'm a singe mom and I have an 12 year old daughter. We have a hobby farm near Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on 156 acres. We have 9 horses, 1 cat, 1 bunny and 1 dog. Their care is fairly minimal but important, so someone with an interest in animals is an absolute requirement. Because horse care is such a big priority we do require that you have previous experience working with horses. We host workawayers to come and stay with us to help with managing the property, animals and house sit in our absence. This includes general house and yard maintenance as well.

We have a big camper on the property so travellers will have their own space here when weather permits. Otherwise a bedroom is available in our home.

I am an Equine Therapist (which is a therapist/body worker for horses) and I am SUPER busy with work. Generally through the spring, summer and fall I work up to 6 days a week (usually 9am up to 4pm). My work is mobile so I am away through the day and I also travel for work every weekend, sometimes more. My daughter is either with me or her dad during my trips. Because of this, I need responsible, motivated care providers for the animals on the farm while I am away. Its also important that you are ok being on your own for a few days at a time and have hobbies that will keep you busy during these times. With my busy schedule I do not have a lot if time to entertain. There is a fairly minimal amount of work to be done...general maintenance, animal care and tidying in the house and yard. Sometimes its hard to come up with 25 hrs of work a week. Having said that its important to me that there is benefit to us both in this situation.

My beautiful daughter Netheya has a very sweet spirit and is all around a pretty great kid that is fun to be around ;) I would like to host travellers that are open to spending some time with her; riding, playing board games, watching movies, badminton in the yard, etc. She is 12, in Grade 6 and goes to school Monday to Friday. She spends every second wknd and holidays with her dad. She travels with me for work on the other weekends.

One of the more important things to consider is our lifestyle. We live rurally (in the country) so buses etc are not available. We are about 20 mins from the nearest town and about 50 mins from the nearest city. Canadian winters can be very cold and we tend to spend more time indoors then because of this. It is very important to us that the potential workawayer knows this and is comfortable with a farm/country lifestyle. I do go to the gym in the town of Rocky Mountain House often and am happy to take you to town with me on these trips if youd like to do some shopping or visit a cafe etc.

We encourage and support our workawayers to travel while they are here and I try to be very accommodating for this. Usually our travellers plan some week day or multi-day trips while they are here with us. I am able to get you to a bus in Red Deer (based on my work schedule) so that you can visit other locations. I am happy to guide you through that process including bus/car rental and accommodation bookings.

Typically we hope to find people that can stay with us for awhile but as we have people lined up for various times of the year, please contact us anyways if you are interested in staying with us for a short time ;)

We have been hosting workawayers since April 2015 and we love doing this!! Without any family nearby, many of the people we have hosted are like family to us :)

Our horses range in age and breed (most are heavy crosses). We have a couple of retirees but most are used for pleasure riding and we have a very natural philosophy based in partnership, when it comes to our horses. We do ride bitless and I am a large supporter of treeless saddles. Our horses are also "barefoot trimmed" (which is trimming to support the natural function of the hoof). I have trained most of them myself with Natural Horsemanship practices. We do not board horses anymore but occasionally will take on rehabilitation/therapy projects.
Once I have taught you how we ride here, if you aren't familiar with it already, you can ride as much as you like! And I welcome this!! Since becoming a single mom with one household income, my priorities have had to change and I find I have such limited time for the horses now. My busy travel and work schedule don't allow me to ride as much as I used to, so I appreciate having people to ride the horses for me :)

Things that you would be responsible for: Animal Care, holding horses for trimming appointments, helping to keep the house tidy and clean, yard maintenance in summer, helping me put out hay bales in winter, etc.

If you would like to contact some of our previous Workawayers as a reference I can arrange that :)

If you need to improve your English we can help you do that! :) You will experience life on a Canadian hobby farm and increase your animal care experience. You will be surrounded by rural Alberta's natural peaceful beauty while at our place....with complete access to land/forest and our gorgeous herd of horses! You will have the opportunity to learn about natural horse care...from the way the horses live, are fed, how they are trimmed and handled. If it interests you, you may travel with me occasionally to learn more about equine therapy and saddle fit etc.

You are welcome to travel and do trips during your stay with us.

Most importantly you will be treated like family here, while spending time with people who are truly invested in you and our mutual cultural experience, in a safe and caring home! :)

I am looking for individuals or a couple. Because our workawayer will be treated as a member of our family ;) we are looking for someone with these qualities: strong english skills, fun, compassionate, respectful, kind, clean and tidy, modest, genuine, easy going, and lastly but MOST importantly..down to earth ;)

A good work ethic is a must! I am entrusting my cherished possessions to your care, you need to be a responsible human! :)

We live about 20 minutes from the nearest town so a comfort with a slower paced lifestyle and living rurally is important.
