    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are two roommates, Sam and Cam, with two dogs and super friendly neighbors. Having lived in the Gaspé region for five years, we've had the opportunity to develop a lot of knowledge in gardening, herbalism, raising animals (goats, chickens, etc.), and renovation, but above all, in resourcefulness and teamwork. We're really excited to share our unique world with you, a blend of DIY/off-grid living and a more creative, activist side! In addition to the festival that's organized right next to our house, which we help organize, we're also part of a collective (along with other members) that prints and distributes cultural materials throughout the region. We have a lot to share, and we're lucky to be surrounded by people who are also very generous with their time and knowledge, whether in our neighborhood or through all the people you'll have the chance to meet along the way. We want to create a great atmosphere, allow people to get to know the Baie-des-Chaleurs better, learn, give themselves the right to make mistakes, see our projects already underway flourish and others come to fruition.

On the land itself, we'll need some more hands-on help, considering we have goats (including two lactating this summer that need milking and loving), a large garden, and a century-old house that needs maintaining! One of our neighboring properties is a self-managed campground that we'll be maintaining. This place also serves as a bike and renovation workshop, offers travelers access to a communal kitchen, a large plot of land for experimenting with more rustic lifestyles, an earthship that we'd love to finish (someday!), a pizza oven that could use some TLC (although it's still functional and provides delicious treats during our evenings by the fire!), and so on. For those who are more into the "creative-logistical-etc." side, we'll also need help organizing a rural feminist festival that will take place on this land, helping to organize small shows/events, and creating a... Mural painting, organizing our zine library, etc. In short, whatever your skills, we definitely need you and we are super open to any project that fits with our vision!

    Accommodation

You will have access to the dormitory (or a private room, depending on availability upon your arrival). The dormitory is spacious, located in a large, bright common room, and you can close off your small space with a curtain for more privacy. We will also have a tent and sleeping equipment if you prefer to sleep alone, camping style. For food, you will have access to everything in the garden/fridge/freezer/pantry, etc. We'll generally eat together in the evenings, while we're more independent for lunches and dinners, but we'll make sure you have everything you need and feel right at home! We're not vegetarians, but we're not big meat eaters either, so we're flexible and can accommodate your dietary needs and restrictions—just let us know before you arrive!
