Description
Hello, I am Yves, originally from Belgium but living on beautiful Vis island, Croatia, for the past few years. I have been busy with various projects and have a fluctuating community of friends and workawayers coming and going to the island, in order to give a hand when needed. Here are the most important projects we are currently nurturing :
⦿ ECO FARMING / ECO VILLAGE PROJECT (HILLS ABOVE VIS) : ALL YEAR LONG
We are developing a eco-village / eco-farming project on a biiiiig piece of land (6 hectars) on the hills above Vis. We aim at building a multi purpose venue including accommodation units, gardens, space for cultural events and education, as well as necessary infrastructure to host wellness retreats and active holidays.
At the start, the land was completely overtaken by nature (no human activity for more than 100 years), and since we arrived we worked on access and facilities (road, water, communal kitchen, basic shower, toilets...), cleared land and started growing vegetables, built an A frame cabin, a communal house and a workshop ; then started restoring an old stone house.
We tragically lost our master builder and dear friend in a car accident two years ago, and since then have been slowing down the progresses here, as we couldn't find anyone with the skills and mindset to replace Mate.
If you think that could be you, feel free to reach out!
Several types of profiles are interesting to us:
- Master builder : If you have lots of experience with building (wood, concrete etc..), know how to lead a team and manage a project, love nature and DIY mindset, this may be your dream life around the corner!
- House sitters : For periods of lower activity, we welcome house sitters to take care of the place and work on smaller projects (maintening gardens, clearing zones, make the space nice and cozzy...).
- Builders : we are building several objects (A Frame cabins, compost toilets, storage,...) and welcome helping hands who know about woodwork and construction in general (concrete, water systems, mechanic...)
- Stoneworkers : we have lots of hundreds of years old stone walls to fix and repair, as well as 2 stone houses, and work on their restauration. Stoneworkers and people with stone knowledge are highly welcome!!!!!
- Gardeners & Farmers : taking care of animals, clearing land, watering garden, collecting vegetables, planting / cutting trees, etc.
- If you have skills like ability to drive a bulldozer or operate a chainsaw, let us know!
⦿ BEACH & CAMPING (IN KOMIZA) : MAY/JUNE/JULY/AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER
We are in charge of a beach in Komiza and have prepared it from scratch last year: access, water, electricity, deck, beach bar, showers... We are now going for season 2 and want to arrange it in the best possible way, with a building camp in may. Above the beach we are preparing a camping for our crew and artists, and we'll be looking for:
- Carpenters, metal workers etc...to help us with the setup
- Beach boys and girls, who will make sure the beach is clean, tidy and inviting, at all times
- Sound and light technicians: if you know your ways with soundsystems, sound engineering for bands or lighting, you are most welcome to help us make the beach sound and look wonderful!
- Bartenders: we may need extra hands behind the bar, if you have experience let us know!
⦿ ECO, FAMILY FESTIVAL (IN VIS AND KOMIZA) : APRIL AND MAY
An eco, family friendly festival blending traditional island practices and green innovation, with workshops, lectures, concerts, movies and more. Dates are set for 31st may and 1st june. We'll be looking for:
- Festival volunteers, who will help with various tasks before, during and after the festival : artist hospitality, decoration, building, social media managers, photographers...there are many ways for you to contribute!
⦿ GLOBAL UNDERGROUND MUSIC FESTIVAL (IN KOMIZA) : AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER
A beautiful music festival rooted in the Global Underground, showcasing bands and dj's from all over the world, happening on 18/19/20/21 september.
We'll be looking for:
- Builders, mechanics, painters, light & sound technicians (etc.) to help with the festival buildup.
- Festival volunteers, who will help with various tasks before, during and after the festival : artist hospitality, decoration, building, social media managers, photographers...there are many ways for you to contribute!
There may be other events and projects popping up in the meantime, feel free to contact us and we'll see if there is a match!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
As people have been living on the island 2000 years ago, being here will teach you a lot about ancient culture and history of the dalmatian region, from the Roman empire to the war of Yugoslavia. Vegetation is rich and abundant, so there is a lot to learn on that field too. If you work with us, you'll learn about farming in the Mediterranean climate, about carpentry, or about running cultural events. We also all love to cook, and we like to ferment things!
Ideally, we would like you to stay with us at least for 10 days, so there is time not only for helping out, but also for swimming, hiking, and unlocking the island hidden secrets! On site, we have solar panels, basic shower, many hammocks, 4, lovely neighbors, incredible panoramic view, and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.
We provide you 3 meals a day and accommodation in exchange of 5 hours help per day, 5 days a week.Help
