    Description

I have a small farm property that has been in my family for 3 generations going on 4. I am on my own now here and although my son's and their families are close by and involved, there is always lots of work to do and extra helping hands are very welcome in the busy months.

Aside from myself, there are horses, dogs and cats on the property. If you don't enjoy animals, this probably isn't the place for you, four leggers are like family here. Hair and drool will get on your clothes haha

In addition to a variety of projects, animals and tasks to help with, there are many other things to enjoy right on the property. Including mountain views, ponds, forests, fields and lots of bird and wildlife to enjoy.
The property central to many of Alberta's most popular attractions and activities but does require transportation to any towns or attractions off property.

I prefer Workawayers who are easy going, have good communication, can work independently, as well as a team and helpers looking for a personal experience while they stay because you will be in my home and around my daily life while you're here.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our farm is situated in a central location, not more than 2 hours away from many main activities and attractions popular in Alberta. The farm itself is very intentionally unplugged and peaceful but it's not hard to find some excitement if needed.
When time and resources allow, I enjoy assisting and joining Workawayers in getting to see and partake in whatever Alberta culture and activities they wish to pursue. Alberta has so much to offer and I encourage Workawayers to take in what they are able to during their stay.
While working and staying here there are a number of different situations that give opportunities' to learn and exchange different skills and knowledge in areas such animal care, behavior and training, mechanical skills, learning to operate different tools and machines, learning gardening and growing skills, learning building skills as well as just sharing in seeing what our day to day lives are like. I am always interested and excited to learn whatever skills or knowledge someone wishes to share with me and I especially enjoy learning about what their permaculture, agriculture and rural life practices are like in other places.

  • Help

    Help

Extra help is always appreciated with day to day life here and I have a variety of projects and jobs between the two houses, around the two yards, as well as around the rest of the farm and with the animals.
Workawayers would be living and helping along side me in my home during their stay and I prefer folks who know how to work hard, play hard, rest hard and just go with the flow as some days plans can change quickly and so does the weather!

There are a lot of tasks here that would be very beneficial if Workawayers are comfortable working independently and have some prior skills to bring with them but that's not necessary. There are lots of projects and tasks that require a team effort where you work with myself and/ or one of my family to get a job done and have lots of opportunity to learn new skills.
Indoors, I am always grateful for any help with general maintenance and any renos I happen to be doing. Any and all help with cooking and cleaning is always great and of course the pets always love extra attention!
Outdoors, there are many yard and garden projects to work on depending on the time of year. Projects vary from animal care, planting, tending, harvesting, preserving, landscaping, lawn care, snow removal and other general maintenance projects.
Other help around the farm include fencing projects, painting barns, weed and tree management, clean up, mechanical maintenance on tractors and vehicles and a variety of other farm related tasks.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The house has lots of spacious shared living space, and two private bed rooms to choose from, both fully furnished with queen beds and closets. There is also a separate private 3 piece bath for helpers as well.
My situation can comfortably accommodate singles, doubles, couples traveling together, or a small family. There is also a motorhome that could comfortably accommodate helpers if needed and is fully contained.
Many outdoor and indoor areas to enjoy.
Food/meals are included with accommodation, and some shared prep and some fending for yourself should be expected.
I am a small and basic eater on my own but I am happy to enjoy trying all kinds of new food and really appreciate and enjoy when Workawayers cook and share new recipes. Breakfast and lunch are light and somewhat on the go most days here, supper tends to be the main prepared meal but that can vary depending on the day and company.
