    Description

After nearly 30 years living in Rome, my husband and I decided to move to the countryside near Viterbo to enjoy the life in nature. Here we started our own organic vegetable garden, are learning how to "live" with 100 olive trees, have 4 dogs of different sizes, 3 ha of land, wich still waits to be fully used. With other words: work in progress to become farmers or at least something similar.

We are a family of 5, but the elders are already living abroad and only our youngest son lives with us, studying at the University of Viterbo. We have a big house that we rent during the summer months and a little cottage in which we stay when the house is rented.
I am a caterer and therefore a very good cook. My son is vegan and a challenge for me to learn more about that kind of cooking . We are a very open family, me being german, my husband italian, one son living in Kenia.

Here we can combine our passion for countryside living and my passion for healthy cooking. Finally I am able to use my own vegetables and all the good things the farmer markets provide!

We produce our own olive oil and are starting a raspberry garden!

Daily chores around the kitchen are expected of everyone, even guests, this goes without saying and is not really the 'work' expected in this Workaway. . We have a maid that comes twice a week so you are not expected to do any serious cleaning, just simple tasks like preparing the kitchen for breakfast, keeping the woodpile stocked from already cut wood (winter), watering plants (summer) and clearing the table after meals. You also need to do 5 hours of volunteer work everyday on different projects around the property. Also, if you work for a full day, this can be in exchange for a full day to visit one of several attractions or towns nearby.
We need mainly help with the land: the organic vegetable garden and the olive trees: harvesting and pruning. Also some little help in the general maintenance od the house.

Rome is just 1,30 hour far away. We are just 5 minutes away from the Bolsena lake, which is a summer detination for a lot of turists. Near to our house you can find free thermal baths in the nature. You can get to Siena and Florence in two hours by train and visit all the small cities in the Alto Lazio, the centre of Estrucan culture.
