Hi. I'm a professional musician and producer. I've a little studio and a professional band with growing reputation and success.
I live in Brittany a region in the north-west of France. Brittany is one of the six Celtic nations and has strong cultural background and his own very active culture and music and a wide bunch of festivals of any kind and any size (a few huge ones). I live close to the sea (15 mn drive), in a charming little medieval town along a river.
I like to cook and every volunteer I received has testified he/she had good eaten at my home.
You'll be involved in the work of a band mixing traditional breton music and electronic music. You'll have opportunities to go to both traditional "festou noz" (traditional dance parties) and other concerts of traditional or modern music, and meet local musicians playing traditional or modern music, often both. You can learn things about breton culture and music, sound recording and processing, electronic music producing... and photography (I'm also an amateur photographer that have done some exhibitions). And French cooking, by the way.
Depending on work to do, you may group you work on some day and be completely free the rest of the week. You also may work not be only on weeks day, but also during week-ends, so you can move and enjoy the surroundings during the week also.
Please take the time to read all of this carefully before writing me.
I'd be interested in hosting people wanting to help on the development of my band :
> Music : sound engineering, sound design, live coaching
> graphic and visual arts : graphic design, pictures, video shooting and editing, costume design, stage scenery/settings
> communication : press relations, translating documents and website in different languages...
> music business : helping to organize tour in your country (or another ones)... or any offer of this kind.
You also can give your own ideas / projects.
We don't need help in music itself, thanks. But of course, if you're a musician, it will be a pleasure to play some jams together.
I've already hosted a volunteer who made our website. He made a very nice job. But even if it's a professional, it took me much time to work with him, to give him good informations for his work, establish strategy, make decisions together and so on.
So I'm sorry to say that I will only accept volunteers who have real skills and/or experience in the work they offer to do.
Don't say "I like to take pictures of my dog and put them in Instagram, so I could take pictures of your band". Please, understand that we seek almost professional people because we ourselves are professional and can't afford to spend time on things that won't be usable because it's not professional enough or even achieved.
Or course, you don't have to be really a professional. But we are not talking about kinds of works where good will and involvement, even at an highest level, are enough. You may see your stay like a job or at least like a kind of internship.
And please, understand that I receive many offers from volunteers. So don't loose your time nor mine. Explain a bit your experience and skills. Give me links where I can see or hear some works you've already done, and so on. Messages like "hey, I'd like to work with you. I'm a guitar player and I'll be glad to learn about producing and sound engineering" are not useful.
If you have real skills to offer, there will be many chances I'll be very glad to host you. Otherwise there are very few.
You may have one of our girls room. When they are home (during week-ends or school vacancy), you may be hosted 15 minutes walk away by my former girlfriend who has a huge nice old house where there's my studio. There, you'll have you own room and bathroom. It will be up to you. Everywhere you choose to stay, there's a bus stop not far away.
There are many thing to do around there, as we are near the sea and countryside. Where also in a 220 000 habitant agglomeration where you'll find nice bars, restaurants, concerts, exhibitions, museum and so on. There's a good enough bus network and a train station in the town, but it's a place where having a car is a plus to reach any place you want in a short time.
The region is really nice, with various landscapes. The climate is temperate.
I've been very active in Couchsurfing (and now rather BeWelcome) and I have hosted many travelers (and been hosted too). That's the spirit I'd like to share with you.
I've already hosted one volunteer. It was a nice moment for both us.
