Description
Hi. We are Ana (Brazilian), Simon (English), and our two boys, Caio (6) and Dylan (1). We live on a beautiful farm, high up in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountains, in Itapeva, Minas Gerais (2 hours from Sao Paulo). The farm contains large areas of regrowth forest, pasture, some small plantations, and areas of agroforestry, as well as 6 houses of different ages, shapes and sizes!
Nowadays our children are at the center of our family life. We are choosing a self-led learning (unschooling) approach and so our priority is to engage with the world in a way that brings the greatest benefit for the family as a whole. We would love to receive other families with children to share in our daily lives and learning experiences.
Somos Ana, Simon, Caio (6) e Dylan (1). Ana é brasileira e Simon inglês. Moramos no Sítio Nossa Paz, em Itapeva-MG, na Serra da Mantiqueira. O sítio tem grandes áreas de mata secundária, pastos, algumas pequenas plantações, áreas de agrofloresta, e 6 casas muito variadas.
Hoje em dia as crianças estão no centro do nosso mundo. Estamos seguindo um caminho de educação auto-dirigida (desescolarização), e procuramos experiências enriquecedores para toda a família. Adoraremos receber outras famílias com crianças para compartilhar o dia-a-dia em família.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Volunteers can learn and practice Portuguese and English, and learn about agroforestry, ecology and the nature of the region. We also love to learn and experience new things, especially if we can involve the children.
Os voluntários podem aprender e treinar seu inglês ou português, aprender sobre agrofloresta, ecologia e a natureza da região. Estamos sempre abertos para trocas de conhecimento e para aprender coisas novas, especialmente com relação às crianças.

Help
As a family we are choosing a path of unschooling, so we are seeking positive interactions and relationships for the children (and us) that enrich all of our lives. We would especially love to receive other families with children, to share some aspects of daily life, childcare and learning experiences. Individuals or couples who enjoy being with children would also be welcome to spend some of their time with the kids.
Our work on the farm involves regular maintenance and renovation of the buildings and infrastructure, outdoor areas (gardening, etc) and plantations/agroforestry.
The day-to-day work varies considerably, and we wish to remain flexible so that we can receive the greatest mutual benefit for us and our volunteers, depending on their skills, experience and interests. Regular tasks often include DIY, gardening, care of agroforestry areas, veg gardens and plantations (pruning, weeding, etc), domestic work (cleaning, cooking, house maintenance).
Como família estamos escolhendo o caminho de educação auto-dirigida (desescolarização), então procuramos interações e relações positivas que enriquecem nossas vidas. Adoraremos receber famílias com crianças para compartilhar nosso dia-a-dia, cuidados com as crianças e experiências educativas. Estamos abertos também para indivíduos ou casais que gostam de interagir com crianças.
Nosso trabalho no sítio inclui manutenção e reformas das casas e infraestruturas, das áreas externas (jardinagem, entre outros), e das plantações e agroflorestas.
O trabalho é bastante variado e temos uma certa flexibilidade para acomodar as habilidades, experiência e interesse dos voluntários da melhor form possível. Tarefas frequentes incluem manutenções gerais nas casas, jardinagem, manejo das agroflorestas e plantios (poda, capina, etc), trabalhos domêsticos (limpeza, cozinhar, etc).

We speak English and Portuguese fluently, Ana speaks good Spanish. We are interested in improving our Spanish, French and Italian and for the children to have contact with these languages (or others)
Accommodation
We rent out some of the houses on the farm and the volunteers will be able to stay in one of these houses when they are not booked. This may mean they need to move house at some point during their stay. If the stay coincides with a public holiday when all of the houses are booked it may be necessary to camp for a short time (we have a tent we can lend and all bedding will be provided).
We will provide basic food ingredients for individuals and couples, which they can supplement with their own supplies. Families will be expected to provide for themselves but we can discuss this on a case-by-case basis. We will eat some meals but cooking facilities are provided for day-to-day meals. If anyone really enjoys cooking we would be very happy for them to cook some meals for us all as part of their work.
No sítio temos casas que alugamos para hóspedes. Os voluntários ficarão hospedados em alguma dessas casa enquanto não está alugada. Existe alguma possibilidade de ter que mudar de casa durante a estadia se a casa está alugada. Se tiver um feriado e todas as casas estão alugadas pode ser necessário acampar por um curto tempo (temos barraca, colchão, etc, para emprestar).
Vamos providenciar alguns alimentos básicos para voluntários individuais e casais, e eles podem comprar coisas adicionais. De modo geral não podemos providenciar comida para famílias, mas podemos conversar sobre isso confirme o caso. Vamos comer algumas refeições juntos mas os voluntários teriam uma cozinha para preparar suas refeições no dia-a-dia. Se tiver voluntários que gostam muito de cozinhar, estaremos muito felizes se preparassem algumas refeicoes para todos como parte do seu trabalho.
What else ...
The farm is in quite an isolated location, with no public transport and 13km from the nearest town. We should be able to pick up volunteers from this town (Itapeva-MG) - which is well connected to bus routes - but we recommend that people bring all that they need to the farm so that they do not need to leave much during their stay.
There are lots of options for walking and hiking in and around the farm and a lovely lake to swim in. All houses have reasonable wi-fi, but the location provides an excellent opportunity to disconnect from the outer world and connect with nature, ourselves and each other!
There may be opportunities to get a lift and explore local towns when we or other farm residents are going out.
O sítio está bastante isolado (13km de Itapeva-MG, a cidade mais próxima) e o transporte público não chega aqui. Normalmente podemos buscar voluntários em Itapeva, que está bem conectada com grandes rotas de onibus. Sugerimos que trazem tudo que precisam durante a estadia para não ter que sair muito (podem surgir oportunidades de pegar carona com os moradores do sitio).
Todas as casas tem wi-fi razoável, mas sugerimos aproveitar da oportunidade para se desconectar ao mundo externo e conectar com a natureza, as pessoas e a si mesmo! Tem diversas opções de caminhadas dentro e fora do sítio, com vistas privilegiadas, e um lago para nadar.

Temos bastante experiência trabalhando com home office, desde muito antes da pandemia. Todas as casas tem wi-fi razoável, mas não é super rápido. Tem sido suficiente para a grande maioria das necessidades. De vez em quando pode faltar luz no sítio para algumas horas depois de tempestades. We have worked remotely for much of the last ten years. All of the houses at the farm have a reasonable wi-fi connection, it isn't super fast but we have found it to be sufficient for most of our needs. We do have occasional power outages when there are storms.
Space for parking camper vans
O sítio é grande e temos bastante espaço para isso. Não podemos garantir um lugar coberto, e o acesso à água, luz e banheiro vai variar dependendo do local escolhido. Mas vamos resolver isso juntos. A estrada de terra para chegar no sítio pode ficar um pouco complicado com tempo chuvoso. There are a number of possible locations on the farm to park a van or motorhome. Depending on the size it might be possible to provide a covered area, but we can't always guarantee this. Proximity to water, power and bathroom will depend on the site chosen, but we can work that out together. The dirt road to the farm can get muddy if it rains a lot.
Can possibly accept pets
Aceitamos animais, desde que os donos se responsibilizam pelos seus animais. Já tem alguns cachorros em outras partes do sítio (a maioria ficam em uma área restrita), e a gente não pode se responsabilizar pela interação entre esses animais. We are happy to receive pets, as long as their owners take responsibility for them. There are dogs at the farm already (mostly enclosed in another area) and we cannot take responsibility for any interaction between the visiting and resident animals (which are not ours).
