    Description

We live in a lovely little village on the shores of Lough Carra, Co Mayo.It is 1 km from the main road and has a sense of peace and tranquillity. Our 3 adult children have their own homes (and are busy enough maintaining them without helping with ours) and we (I!) need help with our garden so an interest in gardening is needed. Nothing major - general weeding and maintenance. I keep bees, 3 hives but I don't expect help with these. If you want to help - great. If it's raining, might do some indoor painting or clean the hive frames.

Our location is very central: Castlebar 20km, Museum of Country Life Turlough 27km, Westport 25km, Galway 57km, Achill 70km - great variety of places to visit. Roonagh Pier is just 50km away from where you can get a ferry to Clare Island or Inishturk.

Internet is not great at times but I did work from home as a call taker for a few years so it's manageable. If you need to do a lot of work on the internet, there is a Fibre internet Hub in the local Community Centre (cost approx €10 per day) .

There are lots of local walks and hillwalking nearby, kayaking on Lough Carra and cold water swimming in Lough Mask, Tourmakeady Waterfall and woods, Cong woods; Croagh Patrick (The Reek) is 33km away and a lovely climb. Also, I have a bicycle which you can borrow. As we live in a rural area it would be better if you have your own transport in order to fully appreciate all the local attractions. There is a bus service to Castlebar, Westport, Galway and we live 2km from pick up point. If you like quiet walks, our location is ideal for you.

I would be happy to bring you to historical sites near Partry which are worth a visit if you are interested: Moore Hall, Ballintubber Abbey. Also Museum of Country Life in Turlough.
I have intermediate Irish (just about, really Leaving Cert Irish from many years ago) and I'm attending Irish comhrá classes in Tourmakeady and would be happy to share cúpla focal along the way and to learn a little of your language. If you are learning / improving your English I would be happy to help you.
There is Bingo on Monday nights in the local community centre and a Ladies Club once a month. Westport Town Hall Theatre and Linenhall Centre Castlebar offer a variety of shows, comedy and music nights while Custom House Studio Westport offers exhibitions and classes.
I love meeting new people and learning about their lifestyle and culture.

I'd be delighted to welcome someone who is interested in gardening and likes spending time outside. I would love to get ideas on improving my garden and we would be doing projects together. I have been gardening for many years so might be able to give some tips and advice. There would be plenty of free time for exploring the area as it would be 4-5 hours for 5 days, times to suit you.

    Accommodation

Accommodation is an en suite bedroom with double bed, downstairs. Would suit a sole Workawayer or a couple. Our bedroom is upstairs.

I'm not a 'foodie' - I like very plain food and very happy for you to cook for yourself if you prefer that (I will supply ingredients). I might even try your cooking but after 40 years of my husband trying to convert me to rice and pasta etc., I don't think I'll change now. I make a nice apple cake and caiscin (soda bread).
