Description
Hi Workawayers!
We are a small community of 5 humans: Karl-Heinz, Anke, Frank, Helga and Tanja, as well as a few animals: 1 dog, 2 cats, 2 ponies and 8 chicken. We live on a small eco farm in a very quiet surrounding directly next to a forest. We have lots of space and projects and would love to have you here! There is also plenty of room for your ideas and eco-friendly initiatives. You will live close to nature and wildlife experiences are guaranteed.
The farm used to be productive. However, we do not produce anything anymore . Instead, we rent out the land to an ecological farmer. We have a beautiful space and would like to share it with the world and give it some life with people and projects. Workawayers will not have anything to do with the land we rent out. Just private projects and enjoying the space. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Meet 5 authentic "Ostwestfalen" on the farm! We are happy to share insights about life in this area. A few of us only speak German so you will definitively learn a few words on the way! No worries though, they have excellent skills in non-verbal communication as we are used to having people from other countries here. ;-)
I, Tanja, love languages and I am happy to sit with you and answer questions around grammar, study vocabulary or whatever is needed language-wise.
The nearest town, Herford, is only 6 kilometers away (30-45 minutes by bike as we live behind a hill, bus options are available as well) There are plenty of opportunities to meet people, learn the language, etc. -

Help
We are welcoming support for a few projects which we would like to build from the scratch. So, you have the opportunity to accompany the project from design to execution.
These projects are: designing and building a compost toilet, a small stone wall, a natural swimming pond, an outdoor shower and an outdoor yoga space. We would also welcome support with our vegetable garden as well as harvesting and processing fruit.
We will do most of the tasks together. -

Accommodation
The accommodation is a construction trailer lovingly equipped and decorated. It contains a fridge, an electric single hotplate, a sofa bed, 2 shelfs, a table and two chairs. You will have your own bathroom in the basement of the house. The space around the trailor invites to hang out or to rest: from the fireplace with the self-made benches you can witness the most incredible sun sets. There are also a swing and a hammock in the shade for hotter days. The trailor can host 2 people maximum.
I cook a fresh meal every day for lunch for me and my dad to which you are invited. However, if diet is too complicated to integrate, then you will have to provide lunch for yourself. We mainly eat vegetarian but hace fish or meat once a week. You can prepare food in the trailor as there are an electric single hot plate, a fridge, cookware and dishes. We can either do shopping together or you let me know what you like and I get it for you. -
What else ...
If you like biking, you can get a bike to visit the towns, forests, etc in the area (We have 2 additional bikes so if you are more, that does not apply). There is also public transport to go the city center Herford. From there, you can take a train to other towns like Bielefeld, Lemgo, Detmold, Minden, etc... There are plenty of interesting places around and lots of things to do.
Cleanliness is important to us. So, please make sure that common places are tidy and neat and remember to bring back tools to their original place in their original condition. The trailor and the bathroom have to be clean before leaving.
We treat each other respectfully and support each other. -

My animals / pets
Emma and Hope
My mom rescued them a few years back. They are already quite old and we just let them graze and enjoy life. Helga takes wonderful care of them so that they are still healthy and agile for their age!
Goofy
Goofy is already 16 years old. He loves to cuddle. Unfortunately, he does not get along with Canela nor Juanito. That's why he chose to live in a part of the farm where the two will not go. If you want to hang out with him, you have to find him.
Juanito
Juanito is also adopted from the streets in Tenerife. He's a prince and therefore very charming! He can be a bit annoying sometimes but he's also very funny! Juanito adores Canela. They have a special bond. He has a wonderful heart and is probably terribly misunderstood. :D
