Description
My name is Patricia and I live together with my family in a small village called Schmalfelden. I’m currently renovating my house together with my boyfriend Tim, which means that many tasks around the farm and in the house are being neglected. That’s why we are looking for some support with gardening and landscaping, harvesting fruits and vegetables, as well as cooking and cleaning in and around the house.
If you are interested in learning something about renovation, you are very welcome to join us and help with some projects. However, this is completely optional and not your main responsibility.
We are people who enjoy doing things ourselves – whether it’s craftsmanship, cooking, or learning from nature and our surroundings. We love sharing knowledge about the region, nature, and life in general, and we’re always happy to learn from others too.
About me (30):
- I love to dance salsa
- I made my own workaway experience in the USA and Canada
- I am an Ayurvedic Coach and would love to share my knowledge with you
- I am the creative mind behind our renovation – full of ideas and passion for design
About Tim (33) - my boyfriend:
- He is a craftsman with heart and soul
- He brings all the practical skills to bring our ideas to life
- Always happy to share his knowledge and work together on projects
- He loves cats
About Martina (58) – my mum:
- She is a bit shy when speaking English ;)
- She loves singing and also plays guitar
- She enjoys cooking regional dishes and baking – and would love to cook or bake together with you (if you like, you can also show her recipes from your home country!)
About Klaus (62) – my dad:
- He loves cycling (you are very welcome to join him – he’ll happily show you the most beautiful spots in the area)
- Makes the best steaks on earth :D
- He knows the region like the back of his hand and loves sharing stories about it
- Always has a funny saying or joke ready – there’s a good chance he’ll make you laugh every day
The farm:
Our farm has a big garden with old fruit trees, inviting you to relax in our hammock and enjoy your free time.
We have a cat and grow potatoes, carrots, strawberries, herbs, and more. Of course, you can eat all the fruits and vegetables (depending on the season).
We also have a hot tub on our terrace, where you can relax together with us after work.
The village:
Schmalfelden has about 200 inhabitants. The next grocery stores are 5 minutes away by car. There are no clubs or discos nearby, but in summer there are many activities in the surrounding villages and towns, easily reachable by bike. If I meet friends, you’re always welcome to join!
We also have a wonderful village community where young and old come together regularly – and you’ll be warmly invited to be part of it.
Once a week, there is a shared evening with traditional snacks (“Vesper”) and beer for all villagers – a great opportunity to connect, experience local culture, and feel part of the community.
It is also possible to use our car if you have an international driving license and we don’t need it at the time.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We would love to host you, having a wonderful time together and show you all the nice places around. For example sightseeing in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Würzburg, visiting the small and traditional events nearby, show you our special food like Spätzle, Schneeballen, Spezi and Weißwürste... There is also the possibility to get one of our cars for exploring the surrounding by yourself, if you have an international driving license.
There is also a lot you can learn from our family:
- learn German, and also our dialect (hohenlohisch) if you want to ;)
- learn about gardening
- learn baking and cooking (e.g. spätzle a typical south german dish)
- learn about forestry
- wood crafts
- animal care
.....
For the length of your stay we would recommend about 3 -6 weeks. Of course other arrangements can be made depending on your and our situation:)
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
Some of the tasks would be:
- Harvest fruits and vegetables
- Water flower and vegetable beds
- Weed and maintain the garden
- Cooking
- Help with household chores
- having fun together while working ;)
- ...
Those are just a few examples on where you can help, but we are flexible whatever you are interested in or what skills you have:)
Also the hours are flexible, it could be that some days you have to help more than 4 hours and other days you get a day off because there is nothing to do.
If you want to do a longer trip , of course we can make an arrangement that you will get a few more days off:) I would love to show you the beautiful nature and cities nearby.

Accommodation
You will have your own room and bathroom in the house of my parents. Sometimes you will cook your own meals in my kitchen, sometimes together with the whole family. You get your own privat room with a comfortable bed.

What else ...
I could bring you to the next train or busstation by car so you can visit on your days off bigger cities nearby like Würzburg, Nürnberg, Heidelberg, Stuttgart ....
Not far from our village are also nice places to see like Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Langenburg and Weikersheim.
Definitely you could also borrow one of our bikes to explore and enjoy the surrounding and landscape in your freetime.
Last year we had a very nice workaway experiance on our farm. Dancing Salsa, visiting Würzburg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, barbecueing ... :) I wanna have this back.
