My husband, my two boys (ages 12 and 7) and I live on a 3.9 acre farm in Hawaii. Both my husband and I were born and raised here on the Big Island. We moved to this farm about 7 years ago now and have been bringing it back to life. The farm already has coffee, macadamia nuts, bananas, mangos, avocados, lilioki (passion fruit), guava, pineapples, and citrus (not always in season). We have visions of beautifying the land and making it as self-sustaining as possible. We’re very open-minded and love to learn. We love music, good organic food, art, soccer, surfing, farming, and most outdoor activities. We’re excited to meet new people and expose our kids to different cultures. We want our farm to be drug and alcohol-free.
Ideally, we’re looking for someone to come and help us with household projects, It would also be nice if you were open to farm and garden help as well. We’re looking for helpers that have the ability to be able to take care of themselves and be self-driven. It’s important for you to be into an outdoor living experience, more or less glorified camping. Mosquitos, geckos, and other critters are always scaling our walls in Hawaii.
Currently, we have one long-term work trader staying with us. She’s been with us for about 2 years, we like for people to consider long term stays if it’s a good fit! You’d be sharing a small kitchen and bathroom space with her, so being tidy is a must. She's very open-minded as well and is excited to meet other travelers.
It is mandatory that you have health insurance to stay with us.
Since we are a family, the ability to live in community, open communication, and respect are very important to us. All-in-all, we are looking for the right fit so please message us with as much relevant detail about yourself (why you would like to stay at our farm, your experience with children, living habits previous work experience, hobbies and interests, etc.
We are looking for 25 hours a week.

Help in the house
Culturally both my husband and I are born here in Hawaii. We both are second generation farmers here. We love to share our love for the land here in Hawaii. With a little love and care the land provides abundance.
Weed eating, clearing land, building, cleaning, cooking, gardening , fruit picking and processing and other odd and end things around the house. As we get to know you it becomes clear what jobs suit you best and we usually focus on that. It’s always fun to get to know each other.
We have a large carport tent with a pallet floor and a nice -size bed for our helpers to stay in. Up a hill from the tent is our house. We live upstairs and our current work trader lives downstairs. There is A small shared kitchen and bathroom downstairs that will be available for use.
We provide a staple of rice, oatmeal, and beans and some fruit off the farm depending on what’s in season. We ask that you cover any other food expenses. Bringing the garden back to life will bring us all perks of fresh veggies.
Our farm is on a fairly steep hill, 4 wheel drive accessible. Expect to do a lot of walking. Transportation is very limited because we live in such a remote area of the island. Other workawayers we've known have had good experiences with hitchhiking. The closest beach is 3 miles away. The closest grocery store is about 8 miles away. It's important that you like adventure and would be willing to hitchhike or walk 3 miles down hill to a beach! We will be happy to show our guests some of our favorite spots but most of your adventuring will depend on your own adventuring Skills. We encourage people to be out adventuring on their time off. If it’s a good fit, we would love to have someone work toward buying a car or another form of transportation to become more self-sufficient. We usually like to do a one month trial period to get to know each other, and we prefer a three month minimum stay, which can be discussed further. However we’re hoping for a long term helper if it turns out we like each other (:
