Description
Hello! We are Venus and Grace, two sisters from a local Galapagos family.
Our family lives in Cascajo — a small rural community located 20 minutes by car from Puerto Ayora, the main town on Santa Cruz Island.
Our parents, Eugenia and Rolando, have lived here for over 40 years, and we grew up surrounded by nature, animals, and the beautiful highlands of Galapagos.
Grace originally created and managed this Workaway account, but now I, Venus, am the main contact and host for volunteers.
Grace continues to be part of the family project, helping when possible, but I am currently the one who welcomes volunteers, organizes daily activities, and manages communication through Workaway.
We are an eco-tourism farm that coexists in harmony with nature, preserving native and endemic species.
As a family, we produce and sell fresh cheese, bananas, lemons, and other local products.
We also offer a guided farm experience that includes learning about our animals and plants, the sugarcane trapiche (where we make cane juice), the lava tunnel, the volcanic crater, ecological trails, a lagoon for birds, and a small farm petting zoo.
We also have a camping area for groups who wish to enjoy a natural overnight experience.
Visitors can enjoy coffee and homemade cake in a large room with a beautiful view of the landscape and coastline.
And for adventure lovers, we have our famous big swings with an ocean view!
We can host only one volunteer at a time (no couples).
The volunteer accommodation is a private room with a private bathroom in a modern building separate from the main house, with hot water and internet access.
We provide two meals a day and a light snack or tea for dinner, which we share together as a family in the main house.
You must love nature and countryside life, as we are in a quiet, isolated area.
You’ll have plenty of time to relax, read, or explore on your own.
Buses to town run only a few times a day and cost $1, or you can take a taxi for $10–$15.
We often go to Puerto Ayora and can take you with us.
We live 7 km from a beautiful beach called “Playa El Garrapatero”, and we love exploring the island together when we can.
Please note that Galápagos is not a budget destination, and the entrance fee to the National Park is $200 (since August 1st, 2024).
For communication and volunteer coordination, please contact me (Venus) directly through this Workaway account.
Grace and I are both part of the family and the same project, but I will be your main point of contact during your stay.
We look forward to welcoming you to our island home 💚

Help
We are looking for someone who can stay for at least 1 month. You must be an English native speaker or speak an excellent level of English to have daily conversations with me and also with Grace (a tour guide), when she is available, in order to help us improve our English. Branching into topics of Ecotourism, Agriculture and Nature - it is appreciated if the volunteer already has an interest in these areas or is creative. My son, Benjamin, is also learning English so I would like you to speak to him in English and help him, when necessary.
If you have marketing, photography or social media skills we would love to hear from you as we are always looking for different ways to engage and attract visitors.
We also have a lot of stuff to paint, both general and artistic. If you have painting skills we are more than happy to have you here.
We need our volunteer to have a good attitude towards our visiting guests, and someone that is willing to learn about tourism in the countryside. We need people who will take the initiative and offer to help when they see a need to.
We need help with different types of work, so it is better if you can help with a lot of these activities because life on a farm is different every day:
- Teaching English
- Skills in marketing or tourism to help us with this part of the enterprise, and help with guests
- Social Media/Content creator
- Helping with IT (programs such as illustrator and web design)
- Painting and decorating (general) and being a creative person. Artists are more than welcome.
- Helping in the kitchen and with serving food to visitors
- Helping in the house
- Gardening
- Maintenance of trails
- Making cheese
Our farm is not for lazy people. Breakfast is at 7:00am and work starts right after. We will be like family to you if you have a positive attitude.
Languages
Languages spoken
Spanish: Fluent
English: IntermediateThis host offers a language exchange
I want to practice English daily with the volunteer, when we work together we will speak English.
Accommodation
In exchange for the help you provide, we will provide 2 hot meals a day and snack or tea for dinner, a private bedroom with an en suite modern bathroom with hot water. The food is from our farm, so it is organic. There are hammocks for you to relax.

What else ...
The farm is close to Garrapatero beach, 10 minutes by car and 1.5 hours on foot.
We don’t smoke but we tolerate smokers. Puerto Ayora is the centre of tourism for the Galapagos islands so this Paradise is there to explore on your time off. We can also help to organize tours on Santa Cruz or other islands for you.

Venus and her family are very good people, and treated me like part of their own family.
The work was diverse.
One minute I might be painting signs for the farm, and the next I might have been out somewhere on the farm helping wrangle the cows.
The food was very good and I never went hungry. They really look… read more
