Description
Hello. I am an American living with my Turkish husband and our golden retriever in a wonderful Turkish village overlooking the Aegean Sea and the island of Lesvos. We are retired but youthful and energetic. We love meeting new people and interacting with other cultures as well as introducing people to ours.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The village where we live is really a traditional shepherds village. The local people are lovely, although none of them speaks English. They mostly all have animals and vegetable gardens. It is a place to live with the locals in a very natural enviornment.

Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We have 2 houses with small (overgrown) gardens that we would like help with. Also small home repairs if possible. Things like hanging shelves and easy tasks like that. Knowing how to use a drill would be helpful.

Languages spoken
Turkish: Fluent
Italian: Beginner
Accommodation
The house is a newly constructed house so it is in great condition with all modern conveniences. There are 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a terrrace with an amazing view, dishwasher, washing machine for clothes, internet, and a fully stocked kitchen. We will provide fresh, local food for your breakfast and you can prepare it yourselves. Dinner is included each evening.
My house and the house where the workawayers stay at the same location
What else ...
Homeawayers will be able to enjoy the Aegean seaside, some ancient sites close by, hiking, and relaxing in a quiet and natural setting with clean air and a rural lifestyle. We expect everyone to respect the local culture which means proper dress (ı.e. no short skirts, or revealing tank tops etc). Also, we ask that no party type people apply as this is a quiet place and we call live quite well together as long as there is no improper behavior.
There is public transportation running out of Ayvacik, the closest town, and I can take helpers there and pick them up if the times are reasonable. The local Friday farmers market is bustling and colorful and on market day there is a minibus into town. There are lovely day trips we can take depending on the wishes of the individual people staying.
