Description
Hello and welcome to Murun, Mongolia!
I am Urnaa, and my husband is Shinee. We are a local family with three children and want to welcome you to our home and project!
I, Urnaa, am the director of a small, friendly, private kindergarten in Murun, the capital of Khuvsgul l Province in northern Mongolia. We are looking for international volunteers who would enjoy spending time with our kindergarten students, helping them learn English, and sharing their language and culture with our teachers and community.
Our kindergarten is a place where young children learn through play, songs, games, art and everyday activities. We would love to introduce them to English in a natural, enjoyable way and help them develop curiosity and confidence in communicating with people from other countries.
You do not need to be a professional teacher. We welcome patient, creative, enthusiastic people who enjoy working with young children and are willing to participate in kindergarten life.
In return, we hope to offer you a warm welcome, an opportunity to experience everyday life in northern Mongolia, and a meaningful cultural exchange with our children, teachers and local community.
We look forward to meeting you! -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Murun is a friendly, lively town surrounded by mountains, open countryside and Mongolia's spectacular natural landscapes. Unlike the busy capital of Ulaanbaatar, Murun offers volunteers an opportunity to experience everyday Mongolian life in a smaller community.
Khuvsgul Province is famous for its natural beauty, traditional herding culture, and Lake Khuvsgul, one of Mongolia's largest and most beautiful, freshwater lakes. The region is home to forests, rivers, mountains and wide grasslands. Volunteers who enjoy nature, hiking, photography and exploring new places will find much to appreciate here.
Murun itself is an interesting mix of traditional and modern Mongolian life. You will see traditional gers alongside houses and apartment buildings, busy markets, small shops and neighborhoods where families live within fenced compounds (khashaas). Outside town, herding families continue to raise animals and maintain traditions that have shaped life in Mongolia for generations. You might even be lucky enough to watch a herd of camels crossing the road!
Volunteering at our kindergarten offers a special opportunity to become part of a local community. You will have a role in which you can get to know Mongolian teachers and children, learn about our language and customs, experience local food and discover what daily life is like in northern Mongolia.
We are also excited to learn from you! We enjoy sharing stories, traditions, languages and ideas with people from different countries. Our children enjoy the volunteers and we encourage play and interaction! We hope our volunteers will feel welcome, make meaningful friendships, and leave with a deeper understanding of Mongolia.
If you are looking for an experience beyond the usual tourist destinations, Murun is a wonderful place to spend time, connect with local people and discover a most beautiful part of the world. -

Help
We are looking for friendly, patient and enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy spending time with young children and would like to help introduce them to English. We use an online program, but you would be free to innovate and bring your own creative ideas as well.
The main focus is helping children learn English through fun, age-appropriate activities such as songs, games, stories, art and everyday conversation. We want our children to feel comfortable hearing and using English in a relaxed, playful environment. We welcome you to sit right down with the children and talk and laugh and play together!
Volunteers may also help our kindergarten teachers improve their English through informal conversation, pronunciation practice and sharing simple teaching ideas and activities.
You do not need to be a qualified teacher or speak Mongolian. You will be doing tasks alongside two teachers in two different classrooms. What matters most is that you enjoy children, are flexible and are willing to work alongside our teachers.
We seek volunteers who enjoy bringing their own ideas, but we can also provide simple English teaching materials and activities as a guide. Our goal is a genuine cultural exchange where volunteers, children and teachers all learn from one another.
You will be volunteering for about five hours per day during the work week. There is a morning shift and an afternoon shift with a nice break in-between. You can also eat meals right at the school. We have great cooks! -

Accommodation
We are happy to welcome volunteers to Murun and provide a comfortable place to stay during their visit.
Accommodations: Volunteers will have their own bedroom on the second floor of a very comfortable home. There is a full-sized mattress on the floor and a desk and some shelving for your things. The room has a large window through which you can see the city. There are also outlets where you can plug in chargers and so forth as needed. You will also have access to your own bathroom on the first floor with an indoor toilet and sink. Showering and laundry can be arranged as needed through the host. Both are indoors, and onsite. A bonus is that the house is about twenty steps away from the kindergarten, so it is a very short walk to volunteer each day.
Meals: Volunteers have opportunities to eat with the family and also at the school. We are happy to provide you with breakfast, lunch and dinner at home, but the school also serves three meals a day plus two snacks. You can pick and choose among the options as you desire on any given day. If you can help with clean-up with dishes at home we appreciate it very much. You are also welcome to share food you enjoy, cook a meal representing your culture and the like. We are very flexible.
Internet: We have excellent, high speed internet you are welcome to use.
We want volunteers to feel welcome, comfortable and at home during their stay. We are happy to share information about daily life in Murun to help our guests become familiar with their surroundings. -
What else ...
Volunteers will have time off to relax, explore Murun and experience the beautiful Khuvsgul region.
Our kindergarten operates on weekdays, so volunteers will generally have evenings and weekends free. We encourage you to use your free time to explore the town, visit local markets and cafes, take walks, meet local people or simply relax.
On weekends, you may wish to arrange trips to nearby Lake Khuvsgul, the famous Deer Stones, the countryside or discover more of northern Mongolia. Just let us know your interests and we can give you tips and help you make arrangements. At times we can even take family outings.
We understand that traveling and volunteering can be tiring, and we want you to have time to yourself, too. You are welcome to enjoy your free time independently.
We will discuss your volunteer schedule together in advance so that everyone understands the volunteering hours, days off and expectations and opportunities. -
