    Description

Hello :) we run a school and a variety of community engagement activities in Belopa Luwu, Sulawesi, Indonesia.

    The programs are mentioned below:

    1. English Course for Kids and Adults (Mostly for Kids & Students)
    2. Literacy Motivation
    3. Environmental Care Campaign
    4. Charity Program (Building Houses for Poor People, Healthcare Access/Basic Needs, Helping the Refugees after Natural Disasters, etc.)
    5. Woman-preneur class
    6. Philosophy Studies
    7. Democracy Studies
    8. Religious Studies
    9. Social & Cultural Studies
    10. Public Discussion
    11. Parenting Class
    12. Psychology Class

We need volunteers to help teach English and other inspirational activities to our 40 kindergarten students. We also ask for your assistance teaching a group of registered people from the local community (around 30 are registered) who attend the English Classes that we run 4 days per week. This group includes: Children, Teenagers, High School Students, and Adult English Class and a Seaman Conversation Class.

I have a 7 year old daughter, her name is Anne. She is a home schooler whom really love playing with everyone, but also really keen to know basic knowledge like math and science. We hope she can enjoy learning some knowledge from you as well.

Depending on your skills and preferences, we ask that you to assist/lead a selection of these classes. Also, if you have a particular expertise (teacher, social work, environmentalist, etc) then we would love to learn from you. We can create lesson plans based topics on topics of which you are knowledgeable and if you are willing, we would love for you to lead or assist a public discussion group with adult community members and or with student positive community.

In addition to teaching we also run some charity programs, which aim to help those within the local community who are living in poverty, especially disadvantaged children and elderly people. We help these disadvantaged members of the community to access health care and to fulfill their primary needs, such as building homes, obtaining food, among other things.

Volunteers will be completely immersed in our local culture and will therefore learn a great deal about the social-culture of the area (a small village/town). You will be living alongside and interacting with the local adults and children in the village and will have opportunities to take part in activities, such as playing sports with the local people.

On the weekend, we will spend our time visiting nearby spots of natural importance/beauty and attending local cultural events like traditional wedding ceremonies, going to the sea suround Belopa, to the river, or visiting other towns such as the infamous Toraja where you can further explore our culture and natural environment.

We provide our volunteers with meals 3 times a day, which we can adapt depending on your preference (and its availability), including: breakfast (cakes, egg, bread, fruits, tea or coffee), lunch (local food: rice, vegetable, fish/chicken, tofu/tempe/egg), and dinner (bread, fruit, rice or vegetables). We are very happy if we can cook and prepare the meals together in order to create meals that everybody enjoys, and eat together as a family. And also for you who choose to be a vegetarian, it's perfect, because it's easy to find vegetables since we have our own garden which also possible to give hands in planting the vegetable together.

It's so important to note that we ask you are open minded and respectful of our local culture. We have some important local values, and especially ask that you respect and adapt to our dress culture. So we therefore ask that you please don't wear tank tops and shorts. On that note, we will be so thankful for your understanding of our ways of life here. We do hope that you are an open-minded person so that we can work together no matter which background you are from, and can easily understand each other as human beings.

A further note is that we would prefer female workawayers, but are open to hosting men and/or a family as well. We are also open to having a discussion about something you like or dislike in order to avoid any misunderstandings between us.

We particularly hope that we can find a volunteer with a psychology and/or woman social activist background who would feel capable and comfortable to help create and be a speaker for the parenting and education seminar.

One final note is that our home/school in Belopa (where you will be based) is quite far from the province. It takes around 8 hours to reach Belopa from Makassar Ujung Pandang International airport by Bus. The bus is very modern and comfortable, we will be there to meet you when you arrive in Belopa. We hope this information will be useful for consideration.

This month, We launched one English Program & Teaching The Primary Class in the school in the mountain of Bastem Luwu. From Belopa (Our School), we need about 6 hours to reach that place with the jeep. Need to inform that the road to go there is so bumpy and chalenging.

If you need any other information, we will be more than happy to provide you with further details, so please feel free to contact us.

Fyi: I put marked red on the calender for August, September, and December (3 months), which is already filled by the workawayers from Egypt, Germany, Italy, and Australia. Can arrange only for the month of October and November.

    With love & best regards,
    Mazra
