    Description

!! We are looking for three volunteers to start with us at our location in Auckland as soon as possible !!

*** We are looking for people who are friendly, happy, independent, who share values and will be happy to live with us and are not just looking for free food and accommodation :-) We prefer people with driving experience! We accept workawayers for a period of THREE WEEKS ONLY ***

Our busy period and main season is October - April. Afterwards it is quiet, winter season, and we don't require as much help anymore.

We offer you a great community, wonderful vegan food, hiking and yoga activities and a friendly, inspirational home! Read our MANY fantastic reviews :-)

Please, read all the listing information! We carefully wrote it for you! :-) If you have any other questions don't hesiate to get in touch!

    Lots of love!
    The team
    ...............................................................
    Kia Ora! Welcome!

We are a young group of people who run a summer fruit business with a strong social & environmental vision and a Hostel in West Auckland.

We have two locations - our main house is in West Auckland where we are busy all year, besides we are selling fruits in Waihi (East Coast, close to Katikati and Tauranga) during the summer period.

    WEST AUCKLAND

At our ecological house, where you will be staying, we cook together with fresh, seasonal products, sharing a big meal together at the end of each day. We compost all our food scraps, we recycle, we value community.

Our Travellers Community, our home, it is a place where cultural exchange and community living are parts of our daily lives. We celebrate that we have been able to create this wonderful space and call it home. A place where learning is indirect and peace, friendship and sharing resources are valued :-)
We are an ecological travellers community, welcoming travellers from all parts of the world, giving travellers a chance to experience a community orientated ecological lifestyle. We are not a flash retreat style place, we are roots and basic, we work hard in a farm style camp, very beautiful, very inspiring and very real :-)
As a business, do not get us wrong – we do have financial aims!
Helping in our Community, you will be helping us to achieve these financial aims; it is what lets us survive, grow and support projects. We hope to be an example of a business that combines trade with permaculture, sustainable community and conscious living; a business that values the earth and respects people as human beings.
A financial business, but a healthy, true, peaceful community orientated business.

We focus on creating a peaceful and healthily lifestyle. Our garden is organic. We love hiking, yoga, surfing, eco projects, caring for our animals (cats & chickens), playing music, sharing inspiring stories and we love preparing international vegan dishes.

    What positions are available?

    - Fruit Sellers (during the summer period)
We are looking for people to sell Fruits. You'll get your own car in the morning, prepared with everything you need. You are going to your spot, building up a table and signs and then you can enjoy the sun while people are coming to buy our fresh and regional fruits and vegetables. All you need is a drivers license and motivation!

    - House Angel in the Hostel
THE MISSION: As a Workawayer - House Angel - you will participate helping in a guest house with the cleaning, cooking and welcoming the guests.
It is an important job, it suits someone who loves to create community and make a home a beautiful home (that also means a clean home). Somebody who enjoys welcoming people and who enjoys to have a tidy, shiny and organised house. It suits happy, enthusiastic and positive people, because the best way to welcome someone is with a smile and a cup of tea :-)
It suits people who are already very good cleaners; we live in an old house with a big family (!) and it is very very important to us that we maintain a high standard of cleaning. This keeps our busy community organised and happy. So if you know you clean well, you will fit right in and enjoy it. If you are not a good cleaner naturally this is probably not the right job for you :-)

    - Gardening/ Building/ Maintenance
We have a nice big garden and a lot of projects where we can always need an experienced or just motivated hand.

One time per week, you will also help to cook our evening dinner - in a team of at least two people - it’s an exciting opportunity to make delicious vegan food, trying to use just seasonal products. Its challenging, but it's great learning - hopefully not too difficult :-)

"What else do I need for help with us?"

"For how many hours I'll work?"
You will be busy 5 days per week, approximately 5 hours a day which means that every week you will have 2 days off to enjoy and explore the area. About 25 hours per week... (Fruit Sellers: You will sell fruits on three days a week 8-9 hours and be four days off).

    "Where will I sleep?"
We all live together at our eco guest house, forming a family of travellers from many countries. Accommodation is in the house (in dorm rooms), in tents and vans, as you prefer :) we supply mattress, pillows and blankets.

    "Where are we located?"
Our small farm is located on the edge of Auckland – 30 minutes to the city centre by train, close to the Waitakere Ranges National Park and the west coast surf beaches.

Close to our home we have lovely bush walks, hiking trails and great beaches to explore. We are just next to the Waitakere Ranges National Park and a short drive away from Piha Surf Beach. You will need a car, or it is very easy to hitchhike.
There is also a train line just next to the house and bicycles which you are free to use.
Many people in their days off do camping and hiking trips to other parts of New Zealand together. Where we live there are many great things to see and experience nearby. In the past people have done camping trips in the mountains just next to our place. There is a marine national park not too far away where people have snorkelled, some have even done trips to Taupo or Rotorua in their time off. It just depends on what you want to do, there are plenty of options. So during your time here, there is still the chance to do many trips and visit a lot of NZ in this area :-)

You are welcome to spend time on your days off in the garden, or in the kitchen, experimenting new things – but the choice is yours!

WAIHI / Katikati (December and January 2020/2021)

From mid December (15th) on we would be happy to meet you in our wonderful spot in Waihi. There we all live together in a big house with a lot of space outside. On your days off you have a lot of opportunities to explore because this area is known for its nice hiking opportunities, surfing spots and outdoor activities.

    What positions are available?

    Fruit Sellers
Same as in our location in West Auckland.

    Chef
We will live together in a community style and after a long day of selling fruits or hiking everybody is hungry. Everybody is welcome to help in the kitchen and a lot of helpers like to do so even after a long day. But we are also looking for one or two people who are in charge of the planning and cooking. If you have some experience or you are just motivated, let us know! There will always be a big variety of fresh products available.

    Working days
You will sell fruits on three days a week 8-9 hours and be four days off (about 25 hours a week)

    Our motivation:
Organisations can make a real difference and one of our missions is to be an example of how positive change can be made. From little things, big things grow. We support local farmers and local diversity; supports the multi-cultural community who work together each summer to operate it; offers a place for learning and exchange; for living a sustainable lifestyle as the centre of a business; provides customers with fresh, seasonal produce, encouraging people to go back to the source of food, to know where it comes from and to re-establish this connection with the earth.

A large motivating factor for us is to invest profits generated by us to form and support ecological communities, where travelers are able to experience an ecological lifestyle by living it.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us. We hope to see you soon!

    Lots of love!
    The team!

"As a Workaway Ambassador I felt this was more than an organic fruit business, more than a cozy hostel, this is a wonderful and welcoming community that you very quickly become part of, where you instantly feel at home and you struggle to leave when the time comes."
