We are a group of young people, mostly from Moscow. Since 2015 we've developed a Creative Farm in a beautiful place in nature 140 km from Moscow. Our farm is surrounded by Tarusa river with beavers - our closest neighbors - and birch forest, there is a rich biotic community with wonderful atmosphere.
Creative Farm" is a synergy of an art space and farm, this is a place, where people can come to recharge from city life, enjoy nature, learn healthy body and movement practices, create art together – music, dance, painting, singing, and experience life at the farm - learn to take care about garden and animals, collect wild herbs for tea, make honey, build and many other skills.
At the farm we try to find organic and ethical ways to take care of the land, garden and animals. We use permaculture principles to support healthy biosphere, that thrives happily and gives us vegetables, berries and hay.
We are happy to share our experience and challenges of creating such a project. We explore such issues as:
- How to grow effectively, but with less impact on nature?
- How to organize a festival with a hundred people in a nature-friendly way?
- How to combine our life in eco-project and our connection to the urban way of life?
- How can rural and urban regions cooperate today, in social and economical symbiosis and mutual enrichment?
- How to create a sustainable team?
In summer usually there are more volunteers and guests, we organize workshops of dance (especially contact improvisation), movement practices, music and bodywork, handcrafts, folk singing and traditions. Winter is a quieter time, welcome if you appreciate a more silent and calm environment.
We are in the process of building the infrastructure, the living conditions improve every year. Volunteers get a place in a warm shared room. Hot showers are in our closest plan, so far there are summer showers and sauna on the river. Experience the charm of simple living :-)
We usually cook vegetarian meal, sometimes meat.
We expect you to help 5 hours a day with 2 days off a week. If you feel like engaging more, it is always welcome, but no pressure :-) We expect you to keep the schedule, do your best and ask questions whenever you need help.
The main directions of help, depending on the season, are the following:
Taking care about chickens,
Building an all-season greenhouse
Help with the bees - apiary, producing honey and other api-products
You are welcome to join us for a shorter or longer time, learn with us and share your experience!
DIY and building projects
Help with Eco Projects
You can get experience in building and farming and other useful skills, that can be very helpful for future, even for normal city life.
You can help us, learn and teach, exchange. Our aim is to show to the world through international volunteers, that Russia is not only bears with balalaika and vodka))) There are normal people living here, enjoying their life, and at same time even really starting to care about environment and wealth of Nature, as in reach western countries.
It depends on season, what kind of help is actually required. Mostly ecological farming, house building and helping in the kitchen.
The volunteer gets:
- Farm accommodation, delicious food made from fresh products (including vegetables grown on the farm);
- communication with people with different professional, life and family experience;
- participation in interesting activities of choice;
- acquaintance with Russian culture through songs, tales, nursery rhymes, round dances, folklore games;
- experience living in the family community;
- the possibility of holding your own workshop;
- acquaintance with psychological support methods.
In your time off, you could walk in the forests and hills, swim in the river, float with a boat, sweat in "banya", pick up wild berries and mushrooms, enjoy sundown from a quite high rocky point above river, directly on a border of our land.
You can visit churches and other cultural, natural and historical points of interest in the region.
If you want to come, write a message, we will answer probably take you with a car from Moscow.
If you would come with public transport from Moscow , there are two variants:
1. Early mornings. Go to metro station "Tyoply stan" (go down the orange metro line).

Take direct ride to Tarusa with a bus number 539. It costs about 270 rub (4 euro)
Start time: 9.10, In summer everyday!
Come to the station earlier to buy ticket.
It is the most cheap and quick way to get to Tarusa!
2 Variant. Check out, if anybody go on "your" day with a car to Tarusa, or even our neighbour' village Lopatino: at russian blablacar website
3. More complex and interesting variant.
From Kursky vokzal (train station) you take suburban train ("elektrichka") to Serpukhov, costs about 400 rub (5 Euro, possible to pay only in rubli). Check out timetable:
When you go down a stair from electrichka platform, go to the far right edge of this plastic bus stops:
You will find a bus stop with direction Tarusa.
MOstly minibuses, It costs aboot 120 rub.
As your buses start quite often, you have then enough time for lunch.
Than come to Tarusa. Call us 1 hour before it (when you gonna start from Serpukhow). We advise you to buy in Moscow mobile phone an internet card (Megaphone, or better MTS)
You will find english speaking sellers at phone shops in airport or city centre.
If any questions- write sms. Better sms then call because of weak signal.
There are few wi-fi in cafes in Tarusa town (which is a charming small town on a big river). On the farm Internet access is available, but limited because of traffic.
Here is some more information about Tarusa town, a famous point in historical and cultural landscape:
In Tarusa we would eventually pick you up.
Or you have to take there a taxi (depending on our business on a moment). Taxis are easy to find in town centre.
Ask driver to go to "most v derevne Lysaya Gora dva". That means bridge behind village Lysaya Gora 2 ( you drive through first and then second part of village before arriving at small bridge).
Taxi costs around 600 rubel.
When you get with a taxi to the bridge behind Lysaya Gora- cross this small bridge and turn IMMIDEATELY right, follow the river. There is no road, just wild path. After few minutes of walk follow signs- wooden poles-going straight ahead through big field. Then go steep slope up and you are here.
Of course, we try to pick you up and help with your journey to us. But better print this descrpition to be sure you come to our place. it is quite hidden in a forest )
