    Description

    Hi folks,

I am Marci, a Hungarian living in Sweden together with my cheerful dog, Kifli. I am a woodcarving artist, teacher, conservator, game designer, and manymore rather uncommon interst.

I live in a little secret grove—even if it is alongside a road—in the middle of the Swedish wilderness. And yeah, it is really like a big sponge of moss.

So, my main goal here is to open my doors for those who wish to dive deep into cultural diversity (I speak 3 Germanic languages besides Hungarian), the wilderness of nature, and who are not afraid to get their hands dirty helping in the garden or on the house.

We might share our stories on the way, too. Where shall we start then?

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am cosmopolitan person who is proud of my Hungarian cultural heritage—I believe in one nation with embracing diverse cultural roots. The stories we share make our lives worth for living.

Besides my mother tongue, I speak/learn 3 Germanic languages on different levels (English, German and Swedish), know some basics on other languages based on what I have learnt on the way of my art practice, and wish to learn more, quite exotic ones, like Irish, Japanese, maybe Maori.

This is a rainbow friendly home with respect to every sexual orientation and gender identity. You might see me with my partner, too. Discrimination, disrespect and violation of personal values and boudnaries are not accepted in my home. I aim for a family friendly lifestyle.

Furthermore, it is a zero-waste, eco-conscious, vegetarian/vegan (honey and eggs are welcome!), non-smoking, non-alcoholic, drug-free zone. This is a home that values alternative, conscious and nature-connected ways of living.

  • Help

    Help

Your help and presence is important to make a dream come true—both directly and indirectly: to help in making this magical secret grove available for like-minded person like you or me; to turn it into a little sanctuary where the people who pass by can rest, give and recieve, and share stories along the way. Even small everyday deeds can make a difference enviromentally and spiritually. What you do here will make the next Workawayer’s stay more enjoyable–just like planting a tree for the future.

Most tasks are simple practical help around the house and garden BASED ON our previous agreement, experience and what you are comfortable with.

Practically speaking, one of your main tasks is to prepare the firewood for winter.

Alternatively other relevant garden help may include:
    - mowing the lawn with a mini-tractor / manually with scythe
    - taking care of the vegetables and garden beds
    - trimming bushes and small branches
    - repairing fences
    - digging and general garden maintenance
    - collecting dog poop

    Possible DIY tasks:
    - cleaning and organizing parts of the house or storage spaces
    - helping improve and maintain the community areas
    - simple furniture restoration projects
    - carrying or moving lighter furniture and boxes
    - general everyday maintenance tasks

    Other possible tasks:
    - cooking
    - helping with small practical tasks when extra hands are useful
    - looking after my dog and helping with grooming

You are expected to take care of your own room, and the shared spaces (bathroom, toilet, laundry, kitchen) after use with a zero-waste and respectful mindset.

    Accommodation

Your room is located upstairs in a lovely cozy old Swedish cottage dated back to the mid 19th century or so. Due to the house cleaning/renovation is under process, it might change which room exactly will be yours, but I make sure you'll have a cozy place for you. Unfortunately, there are still some areas in the house affected by old cat urine damage (not in your room), which I am continuously cleaning and renovating step-by-step. If it bothers you, your first project could be to clean and prepare the next guest room (I have 2 more options to offer, they just need to be emptied, cleaned and refurbished).

Hot meals are prepared for lunch, while breakfasts and dinners are served for yourself for your own convenience based on the provided ingredients. We can agree on who cooks.

We share the same bathroom with toilet, laundry and kitchen, too, and the basic suppliments are provided.

In the free time you can enjoy the house and the land's common spaces, beauty, and coziness and explore the Swedish wilderness and cultural sites in the neighbourhood.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

This is not a fur-fee home in case you would have any allergy.

Please, make sure your health and travel insurance is covered. As an EU citizen you have the right to use the Swedish health system’s basic treatments.

If you come with public transport, the easiest way is to take a flight to Stockholm Arlanda Airport, then after getting into the city center, take a train to Örebro (2 hours), then to Lindesberg (30 min).

During summer it is damp enough to have a athlete’s feet, during winter it is dry enough to get a dry skin. It is also recommended to prepare with many layers of clothing—Swedish weather can be truly tricky like its god, Loki.

I use a mesh WiFi system that covers most parts of the house and garden quite well, so you can choose to work both indoors and outdoors. Phone signal can be weak here, but if you adjust your settings so that your phone uses WiFi when you have a call then it works properly.

    Profile photo of Kifli

    Kifli (12 years)

Kifli was adopted from Budapest's streets after his homeless master jumped into the river. Now our lives became magical when we agreed on to share the same adventure.

He is approx. 12 years old, and a castrated male dog who has done his basic obedience training. Moreover, he is simply not that kind of social with other dogs–except if they are puppies–but he made many friends along the way. (Even a Czech hybrid wolf, too!!!) He also has some therapeutical traits, though he just simply accompanies me to handcrafting camps, my woodcarving classes and summer children camps.

If we happen to meet with you and your dog, he definitely needs some time in the beginning to do his regular "security check" (=smelling butts) , and "discuss the local rules, and who's the boss" (=growling). But otherwise it should be totally okay. After all, he is just a dog, too.
