  • Description

Are you sick and tired of the hustle and bustle of the city life or the repetition of your daily routined lifestyle? Do you want to take a drastic break and embark on an adventure that could also leave behind meaningful footprints?

Then you might fit in very well with our project! :)

We are working on an agricultural upliftment project in the Richtersveld, a remote area in South Africa, which is generally underrated in the volunteering community and therefore never receives the attention it needs. We are especially interested in volunteers with agricultural experience or practical/mechanical skills.

We could offer you free accommodation and meals, if you help us with one or more of the following:

    mechanical skills
    electrical skills
    farming/agricultural sector
    machine repairs
    website building
    graphic design
    social media marketing
    business strategy
    raising funds for social upliftment

If you take some time off your schedule to help us, we will make an effort to make your stay a memorable one!

The area where we are situated in is beautiful in its own unique way. Not only does it offer tranquility, sunshine, plenty of natural habitat and interesting cultural aspects, it is also situated close to the Namibian border and next to the Orange River, which means that trips to view the wild oryx wandering around in Oranjemund could be organised, sports such as fishing and hiking could be enjoyed, trips to the ocean or river could be arranged and we will also organise a few small social events to make you feel at home.

If this sounds like something you would like to add to your bucket list, please inbox me for more details.

In return for your help, we will offer accommodation, meals and an unforgettable experience exploring a road less traveled.

The Richtersveld is a lovely area. There is a lot of natural scenes to see with oryx groups grazing on the river bed. We go fishing on weekends and the peace and quiet of the area is unimaginable. We have opened a farm stall on the farm where groceries/necessities can be purchased, but lifts to nearby towns could also be arranged. If there is time, we will also show you around so that you could explore the natural beauty that the Richtersveld and its surroundings has to offer.

  • Help

We are looking for someone with experience in the field of mechanical engineering to help us with repairing farm implements, water pumps, irrigation pivots and other mechanical systems.

We are also looking for people with experience in renovations to help us renovate the houses and buildings on the farm. This could entail anything from building to tiling to painting to repairing cupboards to removing old carpets to plumbing - anything that will add value to the properties.

We will also need help with the tourism component, since there is a campsite on the premises as well. Renovators, builders, practical people and gardeners will be of great help here, but we would also appreciate help with photography/videography, website design, social media marketing and anything else that you think could add value to a campsite with chalets.

Workaway volunteers helping to build wind shelters at camp site
Beautiful wind shelters built by our very first Workaway volunteers all the way from Germany.
Sometimes the help needed is as simple as changing bulbs.
Before the gardening can start we first have to get rid of the dead trees
So much renovation work to do, so little time. There are just never enough practical hands to help!
With water we can create an oasis in the almost dessert landscape
We believe in a work hard, play hard philosophy, so there is always time on a weekend for some fishing.
The dogs love the Richtersveld as much as we do!
When the sun sets in the Richtersveld...
The lane of trees alongside the river mark the border between South Africa and Namibia.
The ocean is just a stone's throw away from the farm.
Early morning walks in the Richtersveld are the best!
