    Description

Hi we are Rúna and Sæþór and we own a medium sized sheep farm (around 700 sheeps) in the west part of Iceland. Our farms name is Valþúfa and is located on Fellströnd in the Dalir region, about 2 1/2 hours drive to the west from Reykjavík. We live here with our five children aged 3-15 years old. The fall is a weary busy season for us sheep farmers since in that time we are gathering the sheeps from the mountains, along with other jobs of course ,
therefore we are searching for someone to come and give us an hand over the most busy season. We try to be weary flexible with time of arrival and time of departure, and also with how the worker would like to organize his vacations. We are searching for someone that could stay with us from middle of August and until middle of November, but again, for the right person we are willing to be weary flexible :)

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our future workawayer will have an opportunity to experience the life on a Icelandic sheep farm and the sheep gathering season witch is, even though a time of hard work, a really fun time . Coming to work with us, we think will be a great opportunity to learn about Icelandic sheep farming, the gathering season, slaughtering season and the time when they are taken to housing for the winter. Rúna is a skilled in working meat so for an workawayer that has interest in that, you could learn how we make Icelandic food. Hopefully we can also teach you Icelandic.

    Help

We are looking for someone that has interest in and gets along with children and can help around with basic houswork. We also have a small group of horses that needs tending over that time because they are used a lot in the sheep gathering season and that would be part of the job. Most of the work would though be working as house helper but it would be great if the future worker would have interest in coming out and help us in our farming work if needed. As I said here above we try to be we are ready to be weary flexible for the right person when it comes to vacations and free time. We will pay for every worked day and the payment and salary will be decided by an agreement with the worker, the salary will be (at least) according to Icelandic contracts of minimum wage.

    Accommodation

We do have a small house about 20 m from our own house that has a small bedroom, bathroom and another small bed/living room depends on what needs in that time. The employee would take all of his meals and coffee breaks with us at our house ( if he wants to of course ) and we will provide all of the food.
We will provide the employee with all the working clothes he wants, gloves, shoes and overall etc.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Because public transport in Iceland is extremely bad outside of Larger towns. We will provide our employee with a car to use.
Our farm is located in an area extremely rich with Icelandic history and nature. But other activities close by are not so many. We have a swimming pool in about an 10 minutes drive and a gym is located in Búðardalur, a small town in about an 30 minutes drive . Búðardalur also has two resturants, a bar, museum and a horse rental for smaller trips.
It is about 2 1/2 hour drive from our farm to Reykjavík.
We really think of our self's as easy going people and we try to get along with everybody. We often say that we raise our kids with few but clear rules and we try to live our life like that. We try not to over organize things so we believe that we are flexible people to be with.
There are other farms all around us of every different sizes and many of them often have a workaway employ also.
There are a lot of activities for travelers al over Iceland, and because the time when wee need a helping hand is outside of the main tourist season, this could be a good opportunity to go to the most popular tourist places without them being to crowded
