    Description

We are a fun, hard-working yet grounded family in beautiful Sonoma County interested in hosting one (1) person from another country outside of the United States.

Our priority at this point is to do a language exchange with a Workawayer who is a native Spanish, Italian or Levantine Arabic speaker.

Other tasks, in addition to language, could include: household tasks, shopping, cooking, or gardening.

    More about us:

We are an international household with American as well as Mediterranean culture. We encourage art, puppet shows, music, gardening and any creative or musical pursuit. (Not TV or too much screen-time.) We have a strong and positive connection with our neighborhood and community (for example, we help pick fruit with our next door neighbors, our other neighbor joins us for dinner regularly and hangs out with our kids, etc...)

    Our family:

We are a married couple blessed with two beautiful daughters: one is 10 who loves to read, knit, and sing. The other, 7 and is our ‘dreamer’ who plays the ukelele, does tons of arts and crafts and dances ballet. We hope to find just the right person who can fit into our lifestyle.

It's VERY important to have someone who is a good role model to our children! What matters to us is a person's healthy habits and kindness...

We would like our children to see that we can all elevate one another by caring and sharing. We love to go to the park, the Pacific Ocean, bicycling, and to be outside and with friends any chance we get!

Please note - we are not interested in hosting local Americans and we can only host one person at this time.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We represent the diversity of California: mom came here from New England (back to the area her mom was born in!). She has lived in Morocco, Ecuador, and Italy (for her master's degree), among other places. Dad is an Arabic-speaking immigrant, who was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and has lived in many parts of Europe and the US.

Our daughters and their mom are learning Arabic and Spanish! An Arabic-speaking guest would be ideal =) Then we could teach you English or Spanish... The whole family speaks fluent English, and the dad speaks Spanish and French; mom speaks some French, Arabic and some Spanish but wants to improve in all.

Most of the family are vegetarians and love food from all over the world!

We walk to our lovely downtown daily. We also bike around on our cargo bike (which fits three of us!) Our town has both natural beauty surrounding it, and culture here and nearby. If you drive twenty minutes due west, you are at the Pacific Ocean. The rolling hills near town are dotted with cows and horses, and vineyards abound. Just over an hour from San Francisco.

    Help

We're looking for weekday help at the level of 4 hours per day (M-F).

Here are some things that could be helpful:
1- language exchange (where appropriate; very valued though) . Arabic or Spanish or Italian is our preference.
2- spend some time helping with laundry, dishes, etc.
    3- helping with shopping
    4- gardening & yardwork
5- help with small home-improvement projects, such as the new tree-house!
6- craft (dad does metalwork) & art projects (after all, everyone's an artist!)
7- spend some time preparing snacks and cooking meals, prepping meals

It's VERY important that our guest is a good influence on our young children! By that we mean healthy, mindful, caring, responsible, and kind.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The accommodation is a beautiful, sunny, single furnished bedroom in a house. There's one bed, a very small table, table, and some shelves. The bedroom has its own entrance to the outside world, and it's a corner room that gets plenty of sunlight. There's even access to a garden, right outside the door =) We've been told that people have wonderful dreams and rest.

Please note: visitors are only allowed after consulting with the host family. Here why: If our guest brings one person by, and then later that person carelessly brings someone they don't know very well... our daughters will then not have the protected space they deserve!

    Access to a minimally used 2nd kitchen/bathroom.

You will be welcome to join us for our meals!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live a short walk from the small historic downtown with plenty of boutiques, useful independently owned stores, fine bakeries, farmers markets, boutiques, pubs, wineries and restaurants nearby.

This area is full of wonderful festivals (music, cultural, arts, etc...) every single weekend from March - end of October.

You will also have access to bicycles!

The train station is a 15 minute walk from our house, and it takes you to nearby cities. San Francisco is just over 1 hour away by car, and there is freeway-bus service.

There are dozens of parks (small and large), national parks, the ocean, surfing, biking, dozens of festivals, hot springs, hikes, and urban trails nearby.
