    Description

Hi there - we have a spare room over January to stay whilst keeping busy around the house and garden. We're on a 1000 square meter residential block in the heart of Castlemaine. Other members of the household will be away, I'll be working during the week so you will have plenty of space to enjoy. There's a lot and a little going on in Castlemaine otherwise its 1.5 hours by train to Melbourne for $10.60 per round trip. I've used a similar website in the past with great success in Europe and USA and am excited to meet and share stories.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

General social and a bit of do it yourself (DIY). I can teach about pickles and preserving. I can teach about gardening but I'm not formally taught on this so the information is not academic. I work for a factory near by who produce small goods. I can talk about Australia, but not so much about Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander because that's not my culture to share but I can help you access information. I like to play chess and card games. I'm not sure what else to say here, it depends what you're looking for. I have varied hobbies and interests and I'm sure we'll find common ground given I have experience with what you're doing in multiple places.

    Help

There's always stuff to do outside we don't have time to get to. Mostly garden specific or painting if that's your thing.. always weeds to pull, veggie patch to tend to and lots of room to expand the place or make things depending on your skills/motivation. On the weekend or evenings I can join you otherwise you'll be on your own whilst I'm at work. Any help will go along way. I'll provide options so you have choice and freedom. Its important you see value and excitement in what you're doing. If you want a project, I have supplies (timber), bricks (paving), and the list goes on. Message me if this sounds interesting but you have questions.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Seperate bedroom with king size bed. Meals will be provided or food that you can make something with. There is a coffee machine you can make coffee. I can be vegetarian if required or eat meat, it doesn't bother me. We will share a bathroom but I am out of the house from 8:30am (not weekends). You'll have a place to store clothes and be comfortable. The house is large and usually has two kids and my partner but they will be away making it a good opportunity to host a workaway. If you're a family, we have a spare room with a bunk bed (for two).

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Castlemaine is great for live music. I can lend you a bike to ride around. We're close to the train station to venture out of town. Camping nearby too. There are lots of cafes, some places to swim if it is hot, parks and aboriginal heritage sites you can access via a guide. The town is quiet but if you know where to look there are things to do as well. I suggest jumping on google if you haven't heard about it. A while back it was a gold mining town so the recent history relates to that in a big way. People still look for gold if that's your thing but I don't have tools for it.
