We are a vegetarian family that lives off grid in deep rural Zululand. I am involved with community work and you can discuss involvement with my projects. We have an organic vegetable garden and experiment with heat resistant and perineal crops. I have a background in natural medicine and include medicinal plants in the garden.
My husband works as a nature guide and often travels for his work. We have a small son and prefer volunteers who are interested in interacting with children.
Babysitting / child care
Cooking / shopping
Help with Eco project
Help in the house
Help with Computers / internet
Generally I have a chat with you and see where your interest and our need overlaps. We would then decide on a main task. You would spend 3-4 hours per day on the main task, 1-2 hours on other tasks like changing tyres on the vehicle and we share the cooking and cleaning duties.
We encourage volunteers to do a daily outing. Mostly a walk into the world heritage site that surrounds us.
English, Afrikaans, Japanese, Spanish, Zulu
Volunteers stay in the bottle house ( built out of 2 liter bottles filled with plastic waste) or the caravan or in a room in the main house.
We are in a remote rural area where you can still hear the drumbeat some nights and hippos have come right up to our yard. It is a mission to get to us, we prefer people to stay at least two weeks and welcome long term volunteers.
