    Description

    Hello there and welcome!

*** PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND FULLY BEFORE APPLYING ***

*** Minimum stay is 4 weeks, ideally longer stays ***

We are an organic homestead farm in the Terra Alta of Catalunya with many olive and almond trees and we live 100% off grid. We are a private family homestead located near Gandesa, Tarragona, in the middle of the countryside. We are a couple in their sixties with a background in law and neuroscience, enjoying nature and the peace of rural life after a life working for big corporations and being entrepreneurs.

Our preferred language to interact with volunteers is English. Although we can also talk in Catalan and French. No spanish will be spoken.

PD If you are a French student and want to do your degree's mandatory studies internship with us, no problem. We have done the contract with the university's staff before.

We like to share meals with you while we talk about local and world issues.

We will prepare a “clotxa” for you, a Terra Alta typical breakfast. We also ask you to prepare a typical dish of your countries of origin or adoption.

The “batalla del Ebre”, a key battle of the Spanish fascist 1936 coup d’etat, took place nearby. We like to take our volunteers to the International Brigades exhibit in La Fatarella so you can understand why and how many people from all over the world came to fight fascism during the Franco uprising.

    Help

We will help you learn and understand about the tasks you will be doing, taking care of our farm, our chicken, the almond and olive trees, our garden, doing some dry stone retaining wall rebuilding and general tasks.

We welcome reliable, self motivated, physically fit volunteers who like being in nature.

Vegetarians preferred. Must be happy to eat eggs. We cannot host you if you have any sort of allergy (dietary or of any other kind), medical or mental condition.

Please no alcohol, no smoking and no drugs while staying with us.

Very tidy and clean volunteers are most welcome.

    Accommodation

You will enjoy a fully independent small off-grid cottage in the middle of an almond grove. It comes equiped with a very comfortable bed, a sofa / futon, a kitchenette, a wood stove, a cold shower (also a hot water one for very cold winter days), a bike and a guitar.

We will cook and share with you breakfasts and lunches during the workdays. Notice we are vegetarian and eat eggs. We will provide the ingredients for your dinners and weekend meals, which you will have to cook by yourself. We will provide bread, vegetables, legumes, pasta, tomato sauce, potatoes, rice, oat milk and tea. We will not provide any kind of meat, fish, eggs or dairy products. You will be expected to get the latter from the local supermarkets if you so desire. Notice we are vegetarian and eat eggs every morning. You need to be able to eat eggs for breakfast and have no gluten allergy.

Best way to get to Gandesa, Tarragona, is by bus from Barcelona or Zaragoza with the Hife bus company.

We have hosted volunteers from many countries. You are all welcome. Although if you are not a EU resident you will need to have valid travel and health insurance and the right visa.

Ours is a remote rural area, so do not expect to find nightlife or crowds nearby. Nature, tranquility, reading, music, wind, birds, foxes, medicinal plants and plenty more is what you can do and what you will find here. You will be able to bike on amazing trails, go swimming in the river and go shopping to the nearby village 20 minutes away with the bike.

We prioritize people with several prior volunteer experiences in farms. If you have no prior volunteering experiences, please tell us why you think you would like to contribute your work to our farm.
