We are a married couple in our late 30's living and work in the suburb of Kuala Lumpur. We recently moved into a new terraced house with our furry kid. The house is a huge investment for us and it need to be kept in good condition to live in comfortably. Due to our commitment to work we find ourselves lack of time to attend to housekeeping and general house maintenance. Our corporate job pretty much occupied most of our time, work schedule is hectic for us and we often return home in the evening completely drained of all energy. At times when work dictates we are also occupied during the weekend. It came to a point when it jeopardize our work-life balance (and ultimately our health), not to mention the house is often left soiled and untidy for a prolonged period and our goal to be healthier by eating home cooked food cannot be achieved. We are searching for a dedicated volunteer to fill in the role within our household primarily to prepare food/ cook, do some housekeeping and secondary to help manage a few small projects in the house. Our primary objective is to have more time for leisure and regain a balanced lifestyle. Our secondary objective is to have a culture/ knowledge exchange with the volunteer.
DIY and building projects
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Help around the house
We value culture & knowledge exchange. We can offer travel advice, local knowledge/ society/ current affairs. We don't mind to tell you about our job as engineers if you are keen to know. We will show you around where we live and let you have your free time to explore on your own. We occasionally hangout with friends, relatives and attend social events, you are welcome to tag along.
We certainly enjoy your company when we are going for a road trip or outdoor activities (such as jungle trekking, dog park, sports, etc.)
Do tell us about your life and the places that you have lived. We have had experience living abroad and traveled quite extensively and likewise we will share the same.
On language, we attended elementary level German class when we were on a short stint in Germany. If you know German and able to teach we would like to practice a bit and move on to the next level. Likewise if you are interested in any of our local languages we can give you a quick lesson.
Our offer might not be very spectacular, or as interesting as many other hosts that cater for many adventurous activities and ambitious projects. Nonetheless, if you fancy a quitet household (we are mostly away 10 hours a day) and have more time to yourself (to get out from somewhere/ something, to ponder what's next for you, to have an interval before the next chapter, to finish up writing a book/ composing a music, etc.), we think that you will be in the right place.
We would like to thank you for reading this far. Please do not hesitate to ask anything that you are in doubt. When writing to us please indicate your tentative date of arrival and departure, your meal requirements (vegan/ vegetarian/ dairy-free/ halal, etc.), and any medical conditions that we need to be aware of. Do tell us a little bit more about yourself too if it is not said in your profile. We would like to know what your travel plan is like, what have you been doing since leaving school/ college? your previous jobs/ your skills/ talents? where are you heading? do you have any particular interest or in pursuit of a goal? your main objectives working away?
Again, thanks and please include the text "Good day Puchong" in your subject line when writing to us, so that we know you have actually read this far and are serious about working away.
Our house has a medium built area of 22' x 70' and is a 3-story terrace. Housekeeping and keeping every corner neat and tidy is a challenge for us. We certainly don't have time on the weekdays and the weekend is always too short to have anything done properly. You will be given a duty roster basically telling you what need to be done when. As there are only two of us (plus a dog that lives mainly in the front porch), the house is only half occupied. Therefore the areas that need regular cleaning and tidy up can be limited. That would leave you with a few daily chores, the rest are on per needed basis.
We became health conscious and we make it a point to make our own food whenever we have chance. When we host you we expect you to play a good role in the kitchen. We would like to come home in the evening to a dinner ready to be served especially when we are too knackered to cook. You need not be a great chef, we appreciate anything clean, simple and healthy. However if you bring your mom's recipes we just don't mind at all. When we have special preference we will give you clear instructions and guide you accordingly. Kitchen is a place food is handled and it need to be kept clean and be cleaned up all the time, not to mention the used utensils shall be put away and be washed and dried right after use. Table scraps and kitchen waste must be disposed off properly and immediately as it attracts rodents. You can see we have a high standard of hygiene here. We invested a lot in food preparation appliances. Our kitchen is equipped with a water purifier & dispenser, an induction cooker, a ceramic stove, an oven, a steamer, a dehydrator, an air fryer, an electric crock pot among others. So, come and have fun cooking but please keep in mind these are our valuable assets and needs to be well taken care of. We expect you to clean them up at once after use and restore them into the original place and condition.
The second floor of the house is currently unoccupied and only partly furnished. In the long run we would like to set this floor up nicely so that we can accommodate guests. This floor has two bedrooms and a common lounge. We have no idea yet what to do as our budget is tight. Very likely the things would be of DIY concept. We welcome you to contribute your creative thoughts and help out in the setup process.
Our handsome rottweiler puppy is a year old and loves attentions, your experience with pet is an added advantage. We walk him twice a day and occasionally bring him out to the park in the weekend. He is fed breakfast before we head out to work and dinner when we return home from work. He is a large breed and may look frightening at first but he is everyone's favorite at the park because he is extremely friendly and likes to play. When he is at home we place him in a cage, otherwise at this age he would be running around chewing up furniture and destroying the lawn.
There is a mini lawn within the house compound that we want to convert into a corner for plants. Again your idea is welcomed and your assistance is required on per needed basis.

Our home is located at the edge of Puchong city in a housing estate. This estate started back in 2002 when the developer start building houses in phases. Ours is in one of the recent phases launched in 2015, so it has a contemporary design and layout. Our house is a 3-story terrace type (row of houses) with six bedrooms.
You will get a bedroom of your own on the second floor with an attached WC & heated shower. Wifi is already set up for the house. The home appliances like washing machine and drier (for laundry), iron & board and vacuum cleaner are available for your use. Again we stress that these are valuable properties of the house and shall be used with care and per operating instruction, we will explain how it works when we induct you on your first day. We are both environmentalist and care for a self-sustainable life, we encourage you to be conservative when it comes to the consumption of electricity and water. You will notice most of our heavy electrical items are selected to have a higher energy efficiency.
We do provide meals for the volunteer. The options are:
(A) Make a portion for yourself when you cook for us.
(B) Cook for yourself a meal of your choice.
(C) We dine out occasionally (usually weekend), you are welcome to join us.
We source our meat and vegetables from the vendors we trust and there are plenty of choices around here. Do tell us about your food requirement. You might need to come with us when we go grocer shopping in the weekend.
If we have no agenda in the evening we usually retire to bed about 11 p.m. on the weekdays. We remind you that the neighborhood is mostly families with kids that suppose to be in bed earlier for school the next morning. All we ask is for you to keep your volume down so that the neighbors will not be disturbed. We are flexible in the weekends and holidays, we welcome you to chill out with us downstairs in the living area and conversing casual topics or have a culture/ knowledge exchange talk. However if you prefer to have your own privacy upstairs or doing your own stuff we will not bother you.
For your leisure, there is a selection of books and magazines for you to choose from. The tv in the living area is quite a big screen but the selection of channels are limited as we do not subscribe to any extra broadcast packages. If you are into fitness we have put up a road bike on a trainer in the lobby for you burn some calories. We have an electric drum set on the second floor lounge area, so if you feel the urge to play go ahead but be gentle with it. Do refresh yourself with tea/ coffee in the pantry.
We will appreciate your hard work and in return we will grant you your free time and days off.
Puchong is not exactly a place that one would come for a trip or holiday. The township is just another by-product of the country's capital, Kuala Lumpur expanding and attracting population with job opportunities and high demand for services. The adjoining cities and towns which include Puchong developed over the last half century form the Klang Valley today or the Greater Kuala Lumpur. Puchong is a decade old township and is located approximately 30km south of Kuala Lumpur. It makes a strategic stop for those having to layover in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) which is just a little further south. For those south-bound travelers (to Malacca, Singapore), it is a good place to take a break.
The public train network (RapidKL) does cover our area, connecting to the surrounding cities, downtown Kuala Lumpur and major transport hubs. If you give us enough notice we can drop you off at any of the nearby stations on our way out or pick you up on our way home.
The airport rail line (KLIAtransit) plying between downtown Kuala Lumpur and KLIA calls at Putrajaya/ Cyberjaya station which is 20mins drive from our place.
Long distance bus terminal (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) is a 30mins drive from our place. Both RapidKL and KLIAtransit are connected to this terminal.
You can take your time off to visit nearby places or travel elsewhere on weekends. The heritage city of Malacca 180km to the South would be an interesting place for a weekend getaway. The island of Penang is a tourist/ backpackers hot spot 350km to the North. A few budget airlines are servicing KL - Penang route on regular daily schedule, an early booking can save you quite a lot if it is not in a peak season. If you are not in a hurry take the regional bus and enjoy the 5-hour ride to Penang.
