The long-term vision of the project is to contribute for the valorisation of the natural forest of the region and to create a sustainable way of managing an agroforestry property, being able to generate income from the natural resources available. Volunteers joining the project will be able to learn about the production of Medronho, honey and vegetables, will be in contact with farm animals and also have the opportunity to meet with hikers and travellers passing on the trail just in front of the property.

    S. Miguel and Odeceixe villages are a few minutes distance on a bike, allowing Workwayers to get to know real life rhythm and habits of the Alentejo and Algarve, as this is a border town of the two Portuguese districts. Beaches are also close with good surfing and world class hiking along the coast.

There is much work to do as we are on the construction phase of the entire project. We are currently on the final phase of rebuilding the main house and have a mason and our farm worker / home-keeping doing the main work. In the meanwhile, there is a vegetable garden to care, a chicken shelter to be build, the animals house to plan and implement and the wood shelter to raise. Now that the Medronho picking season has finished is time to collect wood from the forest and start to prepare the distillation season.

After the main house is finished, there will be much work needed in order to improve the surrounding areas and plan future projects. If you are enthusiastic about dreaming, planning and building, then you’ve reach the right place as the room for creation is basically endless.

Volunteers with experience in building, carpentering, using saw machines and other forest machines are more than welcome, as the challenges at hands are an everyday inspiration.

    Accommodation

Volunteers can stay in their camper van, on a Bugalow with all the facilities (room/living room, toilet and kitchen) in the farm or in a rental house 5 minutes walking distance. It will all depend on the timing and needs of fellow candidates to join the project.

Food is provided so that you may have everything you need to cook for yourself. The vegetable garden will also supply the main goods. There will also be days where we all cook and eat together.

    What else ...

Odeceixe and S. Miguel villages are just around the corner, allowing for some social interaction. The beach of Odeceixe with world class surfing and hiking is just 8 km away. The region has many small towns and interesting projects to explore and get to know.

There are daily busses to Lisbon, Sagres and Lagos if you ever feel the need to crush with a big city and all it brings along, taking a break from being in the wild.
