    Description

Please check for updates here as we change our terms and conditions according to the season.

Feel free to request for a video call, I can show you the house and tell you more about what our days look like, past experiences from volunteers, etc.

**We DO NOT accept your friends who want to tag along unless they send an application themselves detailing their skills and experience which we will consider. Just asking "hey can my friends join?" is not the way to do it

** Minimum 2 Weeks stay. If you have confirmed your dates, it's not cool to leave much earlier that your departure date.

Before we start, I recommend that you reconsider sending us a message if you:

    1) Have dietary restrictions or limited food preference — There are limited choices of vegan, vegetarian foods in Langkawi, so it would be hard to find vegetarian/vegan food etc at our regular favourite spots. When we cook, we do have veg option. If you're cool with that and also prepping your own meals, do apply.

    2) Can't drive a car or ride a motorcycle — We encourage volunteers to be be more active in exploring the island on their free time. Some days we might be too busy to take volunteers out for a tour, but we routinely go to some beautiful locations to relax. If you're lucky, there are other volunteers who can drive but better if you also can. If you have extra budget to hire Grab car, then send us a message.

    3) Can't speak okay English — Yes there is a French speaker in the house, but she is not available all the time. I can usually understand people who speak a some English with strong accent but if you don't speak English at all, you might have a hard time.

    Salam and Hello.

I'm Syed and my wife Laurine and I recently started up our new life in a quiet bungalow inside the jungle in Langkawi Island. The land is close to Kuah Town, and about 30-45 mins drive to the other parts of the island, so we are at the centre of the island. We have access to many restaurants, supermarkets, beaches, small islands and bars.

We are two young simple people. I'm originally from Kuala Lumpur and moved to Langkawi 4 years ago. I run a small kombucha business with Laurine who is from France. She is a French teacher online and writes articles. We are happy to host fellow travellers at our jungle home in exchange for fair work.

We also have to keep it flexible as the vibe changes every season here. We the hosts are on and off busy with other side projects, some seasons we have to catch up to orders and also we get diff volunteers with diff skills and contribution so we tailor the experience as we go.

So if you're up for riding the wave and you're good finding ways to contribute to the community without needing much supervising, you may be perfect for this!

Living in a quiet jungle can be a therapeutic experience, it's a good time and place to engage in simple communal activities and recharge your batteries as you learn the art of Kombucha making.

Despite enjoying our time at home, we also love to go out for adventures and night outs. We are all about showing our volunteers the best places and activities in Langkawi so you will definitely experience the best of Langkawi and the people; this is to support the local economy and scene.

If you're extremely unsociable, don't want to go out and explore much at all, and not interested at all in participating with community activities or contribute to the local economy, you are not suitable for our cultural exchange program.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will stay in the jungle house dorm room, sleeping in either one of the two bunk beds with shared bathroom. Within the dorm room, there is a small room with a queen bed for solo or couple. We have a porch for hanging out, big garden, shared living room with Google ChromeCast TV, desks for study/work and a full kitchen with almost everything you need.

    Our volunteer meal planning looks like this;

Breakfast — Self-service. We provide white bread, jam, eggs, tea, coffee and other basic ingredients.

We have simple home cooked lunch together 2-3 times a week. The rest of the time, you may buy and cook/prepare food for yourself (rice, spices, sauces, seasonings provided).

Dinner — A few times a week, we go out to our favourite spots for dinner. Occasionally, we have home cooked dinner together. Our past volunteers mostly cook their own meals, buy, order a delivery or just have light snacks for dinner.

Fridge is usually stocked with various veggies for volunteers to use.

I personally eat once or twice a day when I'm hungry and I either eat when I go out or have my prepped meals tailored to my dietary requirements.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We have a semi-automatic motorcycle for Volunteer use, but must prove that you can ride competently. Petrol receipts are claimable.

Our car is also available when we are not using it, and again you will be tested to prove that you can drive competently.

If there is not enough vehicle, it is also very cheap to rent a motorcycle, about RM250-RM350 monthly, and a car for RM600. Alternatively, volunteers can use Grab E-hailing services app for a reasonable price.

**In case of accidents, volunteers bear the full costs of repairs that are not covered by insurance.
