    Description

Hello! My name is Steph and I own a few acres in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island in BC. I live with my 18-year-old son, who is usually busy working or riding his dirt bike. I also have a 22-year-old son who lives on a sailboat near by.

My property is in a lovely rural area, just a 5-minute drive from downtown Courtenay. There are hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and a river within walking/biking distance from my house. The ocean and a large lake are a short drive away.

All-in-all, life on my property is pretty chill. There's no pets here at the moment, but you're guaranteed to see wild deer, rabbits, and maybe the odd black bear.

I was born and raised here and love where I live. I love being outdoors and am an active hiker and mountain biker. I'm happy to show you around and give ideas and directions for beautiful places to check out during your stay. If you're interested in the outdoors and getting to enjoy nature in this part of the world, I have a lot to share. There are some great restaurants, breweries, and wineries in the area as well.

I work evenings a few days a week but we can share dinners or other meals as much as possible. My parents live next door -- they are retired and very friendly, so you will definitely cross paths with them as well. I'm sure my mom will supply you with fresh baking during your stay.

My older son lives on a sailboat and if he is around, I'm sure he'd be happy to take you out on the ocean.

I would love help with spring clean up in my yard, which includes raking and composting leaves, spreading mulch, weeding, branch clean-up, prepping the veggie garden, clearing brush, filling potholes in the driveway, splitting and stacking firewood, etc.

If you have basic carpentry skills, there are some easy fence repairs and similar projects to be done. Other tasks might include spring cleaning like windows, window sills, siding, and pressure washing. I do have some interior painting needs if that is something you had the skills to take on.

If you like to cook, helping with meal prep would be a bonus. I work full time, so you will likely be completing a lot of these tasks on your own, but on my time off we can work together to get some of the bigger tasks done if needed.

I would be happy to accept a couple who would like to take on this work together.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Workaway accommodations will be in a 32' trailer on my property, separate from the main house. So you will have your own private space with heat, A/C, small kitchen, couch, table, queen sized bed, small spare room with bunk beds, bathroom, and WiFi. Roomy enough for a couple or family.

There is a hot tub on the property that you are welcome to use.

I will provide all food. I will provide dinners as much as possible. I do work evenings some nights, so you will need to heat it yourself or use some of your work hours to prep and cook dinner, if you're interested in cooking. Food will be available to serve your own breakfast, lunch, and snacks. I'm happy to shop to suit your dietary preferences.

If you are coming with your family, meal prep will be part of your workaway hours.
