We are a young couple Vaiva and Rolandas. We started this summercamp four years ago after living in Taiwan for a year and working in different English camps and schools. We combined two of our biggest passions: passion for nature & adventures and passion for teaching. We are both certified ski and snowboard instructors and work in the Alpes during the winter season. Vaiva is a certified Yoga teacher and working as yoga teacher. We love travelling, taking new challenges and meeting new cultures. Our goal of this camp is to help kids grow individually and collectivelly, positively transform young Lithuania's generation and show them that healthy living in the nature can be cool and fun!
WHAT IS THIS PLACE?
It is a small summercamp for kids, located in one of the most majestic Lithuania's national parks next to the lake surounded by beautiful forests and swamps.
Camp lasts 7-10 days with no more than 30 kids (8 to 15 years old).
Our main goal is to rebond nowadays kids with nature by spending all of our time outside, sleeping in tipies (big triangular indian tents), tents, walking forests and swamps almost every day, swimming in the lake, showering in the old traditional Lithuanian sauna and spending evenings next to the fireplace. Moreover, we have a lot of unique creativity activities, which are completely different form the art classes in school. We play lots of different games, have orientation contests and so on. We also try to encourage kids to step out of their comfort zone and explore the surroundings and their true self. We assist them to open up and speak out. Not only in Lithuanian, but also in English. That's why we could not thought of a better solution than a nice and adventorous workawayer that would become their friend and help them to speak out.
Babysitting and creative play
Help around the house
Our camp is located in one of the most beautiful Lithuania's national parks right next to a very clean and beautiful lake. We are having trips with kids all around the area, so you would have a chance to see the real beauty of Lithuania's nature (lakes, rivers, swamps, forests, authenthic villages and etc.).
Every morning we start with yoga, meditation or active exercises, so you would have an opportunity to start your day full of good energy!
Every evening we build a fireplace right next to the shore and have amazing sunsets.
In 7 /10 days (depends on a group you will participate in) we become one family and at the very last day even boys are not able to say goodbye without tears in their eyes. So you will have an opportunity to bond with very creative and outgoing Lithuanian kids, become their friend and learn from them much more than you can imagine :)
Moreover, all of our team members are fanatic nature lovers, so if you plan to visit other parts of Lithuania or other Baltic countries, Scandinavia we will be more than happy to help you plan your trip!
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Our SUMMER camp schedule is:
1st group: July 7th - 14th. Kids age: 8 to 14
2nd group: July 18h - 28th. Kids Age: 10 to 16
3rd group: August 6th - 13th. Kids age: 8 to 14
1st and 2nd group will be held in the campsite, although we will have one day hikes every few days and maybe one longer hike with one night in the tent in the forest. It's adventurous, however, a bit less challenging than 2nd group as this group only lasts 7 days and is more or less orientated around one campsite and involves younger kids.
2nd group involves more hiking and travelling. We have a 5 day hike, so we would be changing location every day, sleeping in the tent or authentic lithuanian village houses, carrying all of our stuff on our backs :) If you want to apply for these sessions we expect you to be more experienced traveler, really adventurous, physically strong and energetic person. We will need more assistance with helping kids with touristic tasks, such as making a fireplace, climbing ropes, etc. as well as being there for them: becoming their friend, build their trust and ensure that kids are having the best time of their summer.
What kind of help do we expect from you:
1. Become friends with kids and speak with them in English.
2. Lead the games in English (If you know some we are always happy to add new things to our program)
3. Help us with general work (build a fireplace, prepare things for activities and games, assist kids in creative tasks, clean the space from time to time, help cutting vegetables in the kitchen and etc.)
What kind of persons we are looking for:
1. Nature lover, not afraid of bugs and mosquitoes.
2. Experienced in working with kids and teenagers, leading activities for bigger groups of people.
3. Interactive, friendly and very outgoing (especially with kids).
4. A bit childish and creative.
5. Not afraid to speak out, lead the games and control kids.
6. Totally crazy! Because those kids are insane (in a good way mostly).
We believe that as a strange, exotic foreigner you would help kids to learn English faster. They would be more motivated to learn and to speak in English and that would end up in opening their true self overall. Also, how cool for a kid is to have a foreigner friend? :)
We try not to have a fixed schedule, although we eat 4 times a day: breakfast at around 9, before we have yoga, some activities to move and strech the bodies after the night, then we have lunch around 1-2 pm, dinner around 6 pm and cake with tea for the cozy evening next to a fireplace.
Every day we play some games that would not only strenghen kids physically but also help them to grow as a personality, as well as encourage them to think differently and work as a team with other kids. We have a lot of creativity activities that involves lots of colors, elements from nature, yarns and so on. Most of the games are in English, this way kids are learning foreign language without even thinking about it. We sing a lot of songs, so if you can play any instrument, that would be a huge advantage!
We always try to help volunteers to discover their strengths and weaknesses, so they can assist us in whatever field they feel comfortable to. Although, if you want to step out of your comfort zone and acquire new skills, we are more than happy to push you to your limits. Because what we learned throughput the years, none of us have any limits! :)
Usually workawayers participate in all the programme during the day simply because it's fun and interesting. It does not matter if you are 10, 20 or 30, it's always nice to run freely, jump into the lake and sing out loud! :)
A small two floor wooden house with mattresses on the floor and a very nice balcony with a view to the lake next to the tipies. Very cozy and clean. If there will be more volunteers you will have to share it with others. If you need more privacy, you can always build yourself a tent or simply sleep outside. You can also sleep in a tipie with kids. So it's really your choice and personal preferences.
The nearest bus station is 7 km away from our camp area so we can pick you up from there, or if you contact us earlier we can take you from Vilnius or Kaunas.
