    Description

Hello workawayer! My name is Fred and I am the founder of a small-scale permaculture farm. We are a non-profit organization and our goal is to create an ecological friendly, socially responsible and economically viable farming business with the aim to inspire other farmers to copy our methods and accelerate the transition to a regenerative (agri)culture. This means while we farm, we want to capture more CO2 than we emit, create more life than we destroy, not pollute any water and use only rainwater, produce healthy food, build communities, share our knowledge and make profit in the process. In total we have around 5000m2 of land which we want to transform into a no-dig market garden. We designed it in such a way so the garden is an experience in itself and so that both humans and non-humans can enjoy living and spending time there. In the near future we also want to host and organize events on the farm including: farm tours, fire-side gatherings, healing ceremonies, full moon and harvest parties, a festival etc. We are located in Rheezerveen, a rural region in the eastern part of The Netherlands. I’m living together here with my dog called Django and there are also cats in and around the farmhouse. My human design is a manifestor. We are looking forward to meet you and welcome you to join our work and lifestyle.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

While staying with us, you can learn more about regenerative agriculture, permaculture design, (social) entrepreneurship and gain practical experience in organic gardening and other farm projects. We are not experts with years and years of experience. We are still learning a lot about this way of farming ourselves too. We do however understand the concept of holistic thinking and its value and importance. Learning by doing our motto here. On the farm we value the sense of community. We aim to create a social atmosphere and we find it important that while we are doing projects, we also have a lot of fun. We like cooking and eating together, relaxing and drinking a beer at our around-the-tree bar after a hard day of work, to philosophize and sharing stories and life experiences.

    Help

We are still at the very beginning and start-up phase of this new adventure. This will be our first year of agricultural production and we can use all the help we can get. Activities in the garden include, preparing beds, seeding, weeding, planting, watering, harvesting, composting and taking care of the seedlings and plants. Other activities include construction & building projects, helping general maintenance, help around the house, repairs, helping to host and organize events, etc. It’s very much appreciated if you have previous experience in farm tasks, however it is not mandatory. If you have other talents or superpowers please let us know! Since there is a great variety of things to do in and around the farm, there is a good chance that we can find suitable tasks that fit your particular talents and skills. As of now, multiple workawayers are welcome to stay.

We offer accommodation in a basic private room with shared bathroom including three meals a day in exchange for an average of about 25 hours of help a week. The farm house provides all the necessary facilities to ensure your comfort: Wi-Fi internet, chill-out spaces, heating, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, washing machine, bed sheets and towels. We ourselves are not vegetarians or vegans although you are free to cook vegetarian or vegan meals as you like. As soon as the no-dig market garden is ready for harvesting there will be plenty of fresh farm-grown organic vegetables and herbs available for cooking.

We are located in the Vechtdal Region. Local sights include The Vecht river and many small nature reserves which are very suitable for hiking and cycling. The largest National Park in the Netherlands ''De Hoge Veluwe'' is a 1 hour drive away. Since the Netherlands is a small country and distances are relatively short, many towns and cities are also close by for you to explore in your free time. We have an excellent public transportation and train network in the Netherlands. The closest train station is only a 10 minute drive away and we are happy to give you a ride. There is also a bicycle and moped you can use.

If you are interested in helping us, please let us know how long you intend to stay (start-end date) and tell us more about your intentions, talents and skills, previous experience and your personality! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
