    Description

My husband and I are both Germans who emigrated to Uruguay in 2022.
I was born in Santiago de Chile in 1968 (so I also have the Chilean nationality) and my husband was born in Germany in 1970. Our children are grown up already and all live in Germany at the moment.

My husband and I now live in Uruguay (in the countryside) with 2 dogs (Lotta and Luca), 2 cats (Lou and Filú) and at the moment 4 horses (Penny, Cafecito, Jubi and Amigo). It is a very beautiful, peaceful and quiet place where we live, only 15 minutes away (by car) from one of the most beautiful beaches in Uruguay - the Solanas/Portezuelo Beach in Punta Ballena.

The nearest restaurants, supermarkets and a gasoline station are about 12 minutes away (by car). The gasoline station with a shop where you can also buy some food and drinks is open 24 hours. The famous beach resort Punta del Este is only 25 minutes away from us by car.
From Punta Ballena you can also take a bus to Punta del Este and from there to other inbound directions or even to Brasil (or Argentina).

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Well, as far as I am concerned, I'm quite open-minded and friendly and I have been living in Germany (most of my life), Chile (about 8 years), Spain (Madrid, about 1 year) and since 2023 in Uruguay, so I speak Spanish well and could help other people to learn Spanish and also show them around because I know quite a lot of places here that might be of interest.
I could also help with learning German in case it is needed.
My husband is a very good electrician with a good overall knowledge in that field.

    Help

We have been renovating the former farm house for the last 2 years, mainly paying professional German and Uruguayan craft men for their work, but there are two rooms that have not been renovated yet (a bathroom and a small room to store things), where we could need some professional help (tile setters and plumbers). In addition, our garden is still "all nature" and could need some planting and some care. We would like to grow our own vegetables, but as my husband works as an electrician and as I used to work as a Spanish teacher in Germany, our knowledge in that kind of field is not very good, so that any help in that kind of field is very welcome.

Our two dogs and maybe also our horses (except for Penny) would possibly love to receive some extra attention and some extra care. So "pet sitters" are also welcome ...

Last but not least, we might like to go on "holidays" every now and then (but only by car, ship, bus or train - as I am afraid of flying) and could therefore need a house and a pet sitter for that occasion.

Do you think you could be the kind of person or the kind of people we are looking for?

I speak German, Spanish, English and a little bit of French and my husband mostly speaks German and a little bit of English and very little Spanish.

Our place is apt to receive two or maximum three people.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The accommodation we offer is in a modernly-furnished "tiny-house-container" (about 54 m2 with 2 dormitories, a living-room with an integrated small kitchen, a small bathroom with a shower and a small terrace in front of the "tiny-house-container"). The main rooms (except for the bathroom) all have a new air-condition-system and have windows and thus a lovely view over the countryside.
The bed in one of the dormitories is about 160 x 200 cm (queen size) and in the other one about 100 x 200 cm (single).
In case that the "tiny-house-container" is rented in that period of time you are going to be here, we could offer you accommodation within our house where we have two extra rooms for possible guests. In one room there is a so called "cama marinera", that means kind of two beds of about 90 x 190 cm, two single beds, but during the day usually put together as one, and in the other room there is a confortable sofa you could sleep on.

When sleeping in the "tiny-house-container" where a small kitchen (with "kitchen tools") is included and where you have a nice dining-table with 4 chairs, you would mainly eat there.

In case you stay in the "main house" where we (usually) live, you would possibly eat there.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

My husband and I are both non-smokers, so smoking is not allowed here - neither in the "tiny-house-container" nor within our house or in general on our piece of land, which is about 5 ha big - also due to safety-reasons. Please make sure to respect this because we have already had once a fire here that burnt three of our Eukalyptus trees because some people had an "asado" outside.

In general, we ask people not to be noisy after 22:00 hours or 10 pm.

In the countryside where we live, there is not much public transportation, only from Punta Ballena/Solanas or San Carlos (buses), which are both about 15 minutes away by car.
The famous beach resort Punta del Este is about 25 minutes away from us (by car).
There are also buses from Punta Ballena/Solanas or from San Carlos that go to Punta del Este. From the bus terminal in Punta del Este you can reach a lot of other destination within Uruguay and from Punta del Este you could usually also go to Brasil or Argentina by bus - and, in the case of Argentina, by bus and ferry.
