  • Description

    We are an equestrian tour operator based in Viscri, one of the most visited villages in Romania. We offer horseback tours starting in Viscri and ranging from a one hour stroll up to six days of wandering from one village to another, over green pastures and through cool forests. Saddling up and going on a trail ride in the Transylvanian highlands is a treat. And so are the days spent here, discovering the local culture and enjoying meals slowly cooked out of locally grown produce. Our tours offer riders the perfect way to discover Transylvania and to enjoy the simple, good life that locals are trying to preserve.

    Viscri is a well preserved, eight centuries old Saxon village, tucked between green, forested hills, 80km north of Brașov. The village fortified church, gave the German name of the village - Weisskirch / White Church, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit here is a trip back in time but, at the same time, it's a lesson on how a community can work together to preserve its cultural and natural heritage and still develop in a sustainable way.

    Our tours are done in close alliance with other projects that promote heritage conservation and cultural tourism in Transylvanian villages. We are also working closely with villagers, supporting the sustainable growth of the local economy by practicing environmentally friendly tourism and we are actively involved in preserving the authenticity of the village and the traditional way of life.

    Eight of our ten horses are Lipizzaners, one of the oldest breeds in Europe, developed for the exclusive use of the Habsburg monarchy and regarded as the true horse of royalty. The Lipizzaners are very kind and intelligent horses especially famous for their grace and the impressive dressage performances they give at the Spanish Riding School, in Vienna.

    If you enjoy horse riding, culture and history, active relaxation, authentic traditions, delicious food and unspoilt nature, this is the perfect place.

    First of all, you will have the opportunity to learn how to care for horses, to improve your riding and to do trail rides on a daily basis.
    You will get to know the local culture but you will also meet numerous visitors coming from all over the world. Viscri welcomes 50.000 tourists every year and more than half of them come from abroad.
    You will get the chance to attend many cultural events that take place in Viscri and the surrounding villages.
    You can learn a lot about projects done by several NGOs in Viscri and surrounding villages on community development, cultural and natural heritage conservation, inclusive education. You will meet interesting people working for these NGOs locally and their national and international partners.
    You will get a glimpse of the initiatives happening in Viscri that aim to create an inclusive, healthy and sustainable community. Viscri is not only a UNESCO Heritage Site, but was also nominated a best practice for the application of the Faro Convention by the Council of Europe. We are therefore working with UNESCO and with the Council of Europe on strategies aiming to use heritage sustainably for the benefit of the local community, on the development of inclusive education projects or on tackling issues such as mass tourism.
    Viscri is not a regular village, it's a vibrant community with a lot of educated young people that came here to develop entrepreneurial initiatives and to create a healthy community where they can live together with their families.
    You will have a nice balance between being part of a traditional community, an international environment of like-minded people and your individual time.
    You can visit the surrounding landmarks, such as Brasov, Sighisoara, Sibiu, the Fagaras Mountains, Peles and Bran Castles and so on.
    Apart meals and accommodation we will also pay a small wage.

  • Help

    We are looking for people who love and respect animals in general and horses in particular, who like to learn, to work and to take on responsibilities. We welcome anyone over the age of 20, regardless of background and nationality.

    HORSE RIDING EXPERIENCE IS A MUST. We are looking for someone who can guide horse riding tours around the village, comfortable in all three paces and able to spend up to 6 hours a day in the saddle.

    We own 10 horses and the work consists of grooming and plenty of riding:
    * Taking the horses grazing and bringing them back
    * Grooming the horses
    * Cleaning the tack
    * Taking horses out for riding or lunging on a daily basis
    * Guiding horse riding tours around the village
    * Giving clients horse riding lessons
    * Cleaning and mucking the stalls
    * Feeding the horses

    The stables are in an old farm that we are constantly rebuilding and improving step by step. The horses are kept in separate stalls with automatic water troughs. We use wood shavings and sawdust as bedding. We feed grass, hay and bran. We sometimes take the horses to gardens we have in the village, where they graze during the day.
