    Description

My husband and I, along with our 18-year-old son, live on beautiful Mayne Island, BC. We’ve hosted several Workawayers before, and each experience has been wonderful.

We’re a friendly, easygoing family. Colin and I both work from home, and our son Elijah travels to school on Salt Spring Island by water taxi—his favourite part of the day! When he’s home, he loves watching the ferries and can happily chat about every BC Ferry on the coast. He’s also into fitness, basketball, music and yoga. Elijah is a sweet young man with autism, well loved in our island community for his engaging and endearing personality.

We’re looking for a Workawayer to help us organize our indoor storage area—packing and stacking totes, sorting items to keep or let go, and helping create a more functional, tidy space. Good organizational skills are important.

On weekends, you may join Elijah for walks or help gather kindling from the forest beside our home. If you appreciate nature, quiet island life, and bringing calm and order into a household, we’d be happy to welcome you.

Mayne Island is known for its serene natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and strong community spirit. Nestled in the heart of the Gulf Islands, it offers a peaceful retreat with pristine beaches, lush forests, and a pace of life that encourages reflection and connection. Whether you’re drawn to nature, meaningful work, or the charm of small-island living, Mayne Island is a beautiful place to spend time, learn, and contribute.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

A workawayer on Mayne Island would greatly benefit from a cultural exchange by immersing themselves in the unique and very friendly local culture and close knit community. They would have the opportunity to engage with the host family, island's residents, learn about their customs, traditions, and way of life.

This exchange would broaden their perspectives, foster cross-cultural understanding, and allow them to form meaningful connections with people from different backgrounds. By participating in local activities, events, and experiencing the island's natural beauty, a workawayer can develop new skills, broaden their horizons, and create lifelong memories.

Overall, a cultural exchange on Mayne Island would provide a rich and transformative experience for a workawayer
