Update April 2025 - we are not currently taking workawayers

Francisco and I (Kelsey) bought land (1880m2) in the Mayan Riviera 4 years ago and have finally allowed our dreamed up plans to come to fruition!

We're still dreaming constantly but the general idea is to create an off grid eco friendly camp/glamping in the jungle. We already have a big canvas tent and a hang out area. We need to make a toilet and connect a pump for well water. You can expect to work around 20 hours a week with the one main meal provided.

    We're looking for people who:
    -Have building skills
-Want to create unique things out of wood
-Artists with a passion to create
-People who can take initiative and work independetly when needed (We don't have much skills in building/construction so we need someone who can teach us too)

Our apartment is in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. You would be staying with us in our home when we are not working on the land. You have a bedroom with two single beds and a shared bathroom. We expect to work a few full days a week in the jungle and the other days you'll have off. The schedule is something we would love to talk with you about and plan together!

Our land is closest to a town called Chemuyil, about 45 minutes south of Playa and near Tulum. The beach is only 10 minutes away and there a lot of nearby cenotes (fresh water sink holes) to swim and rejuvinate! We almost always go to a cenote after working in the jungle.

Francisco and I are both teachers - he teaches robotics and I teach social emotional learning. We eat plant based and love to live life! Our home is 100% vegan/plant based. We are open minded, easy going and love to connect with people. We have both travelled a lot and been on the working end of Workaway in Austria & Slovenia and are now ready to host!

    *Unfortunately we cannot host pets.*

Playa del Carmen is one of the top destinations in Mexico! You'll have plenty of time to swim in the ocean, make friends, travel and have lots of unique experiences. We can help you with your Spanish/English as Francisco is Mexican and I am Canadian and are both bilingual. There are also a ton of cultural events in the area: temezcal, cacao ceremony, spirituality, yoga, meditation, and overall healing.

You can also spend days off going to nearby places like Tulum, Chichenitza, Bacalar, etc. and we might even join you!

  • Help

    Help

We need your help with projects around the land like:
    -Build a compostable toilet
-Paint/decorate signs, make decorations for the land
    -Start a garden
-Make paths/trails (digging up and moving rocks)
-Cleaning up after yourself in the kitchen/bathroom

Sometimes the tasks are hard but we will make sure we have a balance

You would be the perfect fit if:
-You don't mind a balance hard tasks
-You're creative and like to build or make art
-You don't mind being hot and sweaty in the jungle
    -You're not afraid of bugs
-Are open minded, respectful, punctual, and honest

    Accommodation

You'll have your own room with 2 single beds and private bathroom. The kitchen and living room are shared spaces. When you're in the jungle you can choose to sleep in the large canvas tent.

We live in a 2 bedroom apartment. The condo is fantastic - we have 5 swimming pools, a basketball court, and palapas for rest and relaxation! We live 15 minutes by bike to the beach. 5 minutes to the gym and grocery stores. 15 minutes to down town Playa del Carmen.

We will share 1 meal a day usually lunch or dinner and pack a picnic with us when we leave. You can also use the kitchen to make your own breakfast and snacks.
