Description
We are running a tea plantation on the beautiful north coast of São Miguel, Azores – surrounded by the ocean, lush green hills, and endless opportunities for snorkeling, hiking, surfing and simply enjoying island life.
Since 2020 we are rebuilding an old stone house near the Ocean - it is almost finished!!!! But there are still some things to do.
To finish the construction, we are offering a paid position. Payment orients itself on the local minimum wage, but can be more depending on your skill level and experience, and of course accommodation is part of the deal as well.
Here are some of the tasks that would need to be done:
- install bathroom fittings, sink, shower, etc.
- painting doors (we are using pigments and linseed oil)
- apply silicone sealant at the inside doors
- cleaning and oiling beams at the ceiling
- painting one last room with lime wash
- building a barbecue with stones
- clad/built a wall with stones
- help, building a pergola
Accommodation is a shared house about 3 km from the plantation, where you’ll live together with the other volunteers. The house has four private rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
Because it takes a little time for everyone to settle in, we hope you’ll stay for at least six weeks.
The Workawayers will not be working at the Tea Plantation, but you can taste our amazing white tea :)

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Martin and I, we are living on the Island São Miguel since almost two year, from us, you could learn, how it is, to immigrate and settle to a new country, even living on an Island. Which can be sometimes different, as living on the mainland.
We are speaking German and English fluent and still learning Portuguese. We would either love to have a language exchange with a native Portuguese speaker, or we can share our other language skills with you.
We can share our social network with you, which is either contacted to other sustainable projects and to local people.
