    Description

We are an eco community situated on the hills overlooking Okato, at the base of the Puakai Ranges. We have several buildings that need some love, from painting and renovating to organizing and clearing. We have gardens that need attention and large areas of gorse and blackberry to remove.
The land is vast and offers plenty to do, including crystal clear streams, access to Dover Track (a popular hiking track) and endless spaces to explore- plus a view of the rolling hills and ocean in the distance.
We are 5 minutes drive from Pukeiti gardens and 10 minute's drive from Okato township and Surf Highway 45.

Our piece of land has been deemed a Key Native Ecosystem (KNE) and requires trapping of introduced pests which include possums, rats and mustelids. These pests target our native birds and lizards, some of which are under serious threat. Workers have the opportunity to learn about trapping in New Zealand which is part of the nation-wide goal of becoming predator-free by 2050.
We have some amazing birdlife on the land including Tomtit, Kereru, Ruru, Kiwi, Yellow Hammer and Fantails.
The community has been in operation for over 40 years but in recent years the land has been neglected. We are working to bring it back to its former glory.

  • Help

    Help

The size of the land means there are endless jobs.
We require painting and house repairs, shifting of wood rings ready for splitting (firewood). There is clearing of gorse and blackberry from various open spaces and gardens around Rosewood that require clearing and maintenance.
This place would suit anyone who loves quirky spaces and being outdoors.
We have reduced the hours of work as we are not residing in the space made available for our workawayers and therefore will not be feeding you. There is a greenhouse which will provide some vegetables from December onwards, a supermarket is 10 minutes down the road and a cafe 3 minutes drive away.

    What else ...

It is a slice of paradise, nested on the hill, away from the hustle and bustle. We can offer several stay options and are flexible on how and when you work (e.g. work longer days to have more days off).
