We are a community formed abut 20 years ago around a Vipassana meditation Center and we live in the Apuseni Mountains, Hunedoara county, Romania. The community is situated in a village next to Brad (22 km from us). About 60 people live here, both adults and children. We are here because we want to learn an art of living, to have a positive thinking and to live in peace and harmony with ourselves and the others. Along with meditation we also practice diverse techniques of purification of the body (Shamprakshalana, for instance) or we use health products (plasmatic products, medicinal plants etc).
Besides this part of the community situated next to the meditation center, we have other houses and agricultural fields at various distances from the center.
We decided to join the workaway platform because, due to our 20 years of experience, we want to share with other people what we've learned and help people develop a healthy mind in a healthy body.
We practice agriculture, we have animals (we have a goats farm), we do buildings and repairings, so we could use your help. This year (2019) we really need a lot of help as we have extended a lot lately.
For those who decide to join us, we have to specify that you have to take a 10 days meditation course first, otherwise you could not understand our way of life. We will give priority to the posts in the courses to the volunteers who can stay at least 2 weeks after the course.
We kindly invite you to come the first day of the course and then you can stay with us as much as you wish.We shall put online the courses for next year in January. Once you contact us, we can give you the link to the site where you can find information concerning the discipline and the schedule of the courses, as well as the e-mail where to send the course application.
From a 20 years experience with meditation courses, we know that many people with mental imbalances have the idea that they can improve their state through meditation, but a full ten days Vipassana course is very challenging and we kindly ask from these people to abstain from applying for the course.
We also want to emphasize that here we practice only Vipassana, and no other meditation techniques, therapies, religious practices or rituals. We don’t have anything against them, but this is the choice we made, to stick to Vipassana and to give a fair chance.
We live a healthy life, with no intoxicants (drugs, pills, alcohol, tobacco) and we want to keep it that way. We know about the troubles of the contemporary world, and that is why we want to have a very simple and clean life style and we also want to give a chance to those who want to do the same or to change things in their life. So, if you decide to join us, be prepared for this. :)
Our food is vegetarian. We have a big kitchen where people cook for everybody three meals a day.
Besides meditation and work, we also have spare time activities: we can have walks in the surroundings (the landscape is great), we have TV sets to watch movies and documentaries, we play football and swim, make fire camps.
Everybody is welcome to join us to meditate and work with us; if you have a special skill or just experience in working with wood, building, bees and animals etc. please write it on your message when you contact us.
On the whole, we live here like a big family, and once you join us, it's like becoming part of this family.

Help in the house
First of all, you will learn meditation, which is an art of living. You can also learn cleansing methods (Shank Prakshalana, Oshawa diet no. 7) and health improving practices for the body (plasmatic technology, medicinal plants). We make our own bread and cheese, we make bio toothpaste and soap and we would be glad to teach you how to do it. Moreover, we preserve food for the winter and you are welcome to participate in this traditional process. In the center live people from all the country and you can learn interesting information about habits and traditions from all these areas.
Beside traditional agriculture, we also have a permaculture project in the community.
As a community, we have been in a continuous process of growing and developing: more people, more space, more work every year and we could use some help over summer and autumn when we work intensively in all the fields.
We have bought new houses or built new facilities and we permanently repair and renovate.
We practice agriculture and we have a goats farm.
Romanian, English. These are the main languages for the courses. We can also can provide French and German translation for the courses. There are also people speaking pretty good Spanish and Italian.
The main location of the community is in the village Dumbrava de Sus, next to the meditation center. Here you will live in simple traditional houses, in dormitories. There are 4 rooms for the girls and four rooms for the boys, with 6-8 beds in each room. For the time being, we can receive at most 10 girls and 10 boys. You share the bathroom and there are compost toilets. During the course (and after) boys sleep in different dorms from the girls. If you want to, you are free to bring a tent (boys and girls still have to sleep separately); we will give you blankets.
We also have places where we practice agriculture at a distance from the center. You can go there by foot, or by car. There is the same dormitory type of accommodation. You can return to the center for the night, if all the places to stay overnight are already occupied.
The first time you come, if you come by plane to Bucharest, you can take bus/train/Bla Bla Car to Deva, from Deva there are buses almost every hour to Brad; next to the bus station in Brad there is a LIDL supermarket and we will wait for you in the parking.
Once you live with us and you want to visit the city for shopping, there is a bus station at 6 km from the center with 2 buses a day going to Brad and people here drive to town or to the other locations of the community from time to time.
