    Description

    Hello!
My name is Roberto Pereda, I’m an architect from Guadalajara Mexico and work as part of a forestry team in nearby Tapalpa. I am fluent in Spanish and English and speak well enough in French. I have many interests and skills like woodworking, bushcraft and camping, ferments and nutrition, mead making, beekeeping, jewelry, crafts, block carving, cooking, adobe building, etc.
I own a 10-hectare plot where I’m building a cabin (which is an ongoing project), experimenting with different permaculture landscaping techniques. The main projects in the farm are a 5-year-old food forest, an ash/mulberry coppice, a small kitchen farm, 35 beehives, several seasonal ponds and a keyline system.
There is a local person (David )from Chiquilistlan helping part time with the farm and several friends visit often to help at the farm.

    ¡Hola!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

During your stay you can expect to meet local farmers as I often have people from the near towns helping at the farm. There are also a few people who have taught me about foraging, farming, and the local mountains so if you have an intrest in learning about these things I could introduce you to them. Friends also visit often at the farm so you could get to meet some young people from guadalajara. There is really no better way than meeting Mexican farmers than having someone introduce you because in my experience they can be shy of foreigners.

As for my I will do some of the chores with you and we will be eating most meals together. The main reason for opening my farm to workaway is because I would love to meet new people and exchange ideas with them. I have several skillsets that I love to talk about and I would be more than happy to teach what I can and also learn from the people visiting.

    Help

I’m looking for one or two people to come stay and help at the farm. The chores vary seasonally but can include: Checking the beehives, making mead, bottling and labeling products, harvesting corn or other products, cooking , house chores, planting and weeding , maintaining and watering the food forest , watering the nursery plants , feeding the 4 dogs, 2 cats and 3 chickens. Depending on the season we might be expanding the cabin so help building the with earthen techniques.
I would also greatly appreciate help with producing content for social media.
You don’t need any special skills as I can teach you about all that needs doing, though if you have skills like building, cooking, baking, ferments or any other specialized skill is very welcome. I love to learn new skills and would appreciate to learn from you.

You will be staying in a room with two twin beds , with a solar shower and a composting toilet. The space is the second floor so if mobility is an issue that might be a problem. But the space is cozy and people usually say they sleep great there. Food will be of course provided for, When volunteers contact me I will ask about theyre diets and buy groceries acordingly. I expect some help with the food prep and we will be having meals together most of the time .

    What else ...

The farm is around 2.5 hours away from GDL so I would come pick you up and take you to buy groceries. I might have to leave at times since my Job takes me to Guadalajara. But its usually no more than a day or two.
