Description
We moved to this beautiful farm in September last year and have been working to open spaces to allow light into the fruit trees that were planted by a previous owner some years ago. This meant felling many trees in the winter and we are mostly working to build all the remaining branches into 'dead hedges' which also happen to be great habitat for all manor of wildlife. We have plenty of trees, coppices and a vegetable garden as well as small building projects. We aim to gain experience with greenwood building, weaving with natural materials and other coppice related crafts. Within the next year or two we might increase the garden and start growing staple crops in an agroforestry system. I have many years experience in organic and biodynamic vegetable production, gardening and food fermentation which I hope will enrich your experience here with us. Our place is situated close to the Peneda Geres National park in the beautiful area of Arcos de Valdevez. Green all year round with beautiful places for taking a dip or taking a hike.

Gardening, composting, biodynamics, fermenting are skills we can share. The nearest town is pretty lively in the summer - it is a 10 minute drive, a car is definitely a bonus. Peneda-Geres national park is also incredible! We speak English, Swedish and Japanese, we are both beginners in Portuguese, but keen to learn. We would love to have people with skills in wood work, natural building, land art and people who are keen to get into a state of mindfulness around wonderfully monotonous jobs like scything, piling branches, splitting wood etc.
Help
We would like help cutting branches and building dead-hedges (this is our main task for summer 2024), building compost piles, taking care of the vegetable garden, cutting and splitting wood, taking care of structures, planting and pruning fruit trees. We will usually be working together but there will also be tasks to do alone. We eat lunch together and other meals separate (food provided of course).
On hot days we work in the cooler morning and finish with lunch - free all afternoon to find shade or a swimming hole.
It is important that workaways have their own transportation to get around.Languages

Portuguese exchange would be great!Accommodation
We have a 2 person tent for now and plenty of space to put up your own tent. Outdoor toilet, solar shower and outdoor kitchen with big dining area. Camper vans welcome although not too big as the access is a bit narrow.
We will eat lunch together, rotating the preparation if that feels okay, and food will be provided for breakfast and dinner, organic and as local as possible. We eat meat seldom and are comfortable with vegetarian and vegan cooking. What else ...
Having your own transportation is a must. We welcome 1-2 people at a time who are willing to share a small tent or even better, bring their own. We are not party people and like it pretty quiet.
